Philips 710 All free for ever (well it works for me)

selectionner audio 1
allumer le dvd
`no disc` est affiché
appuyer sur p+
des tirets apparaissent
entrer 222222 005255
appuyer sur p-
`no disc` est affiché

voila, il est zone 9 (zone free)
merci de mailer pour confirmer si ca marche avec les premiers modèles.

here comes the way to hack your philips 710 dvd player in order to set it to zone free (zone 9).
it actually works on several players (including mine) which are the second revision of the player
(they do have the dts logo on the front side)

for this to work you need to do it with the philips universal remote control

select audio 1
put the dvd player on
it shows `no disc`
press p+
it shows `
`
enter 222222 005255
press p-
it shows `no disc`

that`s it, it`s now zone free
mail me to confirm if it works with the earlier models of the 710.

ps: haven`t test it with other models of philips like the 750, 711 ...

ps2: can anyone comment and post wether it works with bios 9.23 ?

Can anyone confirm this?

I tried using this code with "Play 159 [code] Play" and "Play 274 [code] Play" but the machine just froze on the red screen and I had to turn it off and on again to return to the Insert Disc screen.
Perhaps there is another number (other than 159 or 274) that needs to be entered before the code that the universal remote emulates. Anyone willing to try them all from 000 to 999? ;)

Code numbers are right *HOWEVER* the Philips universal is effectively a 6 in 1 remote with learning capabilities. i.e. You would need to know what code to set Audio-1 to or have the multi-region activation code learned into the remote. [Its one of the few that can sucessfully learn the code]

I`ve tried just selecting audio-1 on a new remote and no it didn`t work.

The instructions read like the notes a dealer would get after buying it preset for multiregioning.

sbcru440
or
sbcru620, sbcru630, sbcru640

the remote control was not anyone of model sbcru8xx (880 or 890)

The SBC-RU8xx and Pronto remotes DO work so I hear, but I`m not sure about any of the others.
By the way, anyone who wants to get such a remote can order one directly off Philips in the UK (or rather their mail order agent, Dutchwest) by phoning them on 01434 323232.
A picture of the SBC-RU880 can be found at the following URL, so you can be sure of getting the right one if the model numbers do vary from country to country: http://www-eu.sv.philips.com/catalogue/data/jpg/GB/sbcru880.jpg
