RE: Ebuyer - Customer Service - How do you contact them?

If faulty then there is no problem - that is the standard sort of disclaimer they put on the emails for people returning under the distance selling regulations i.e. those that have decided they didn`t want the item (or it didn`t work with their hardware).

A favourite trick of theirs is not to refund the postage though unless you drop them another E-Note (as they only know the cost of the item and not the postage cost).

He did say it was faulty when he filled in the RMA request did he?

For a recent BBC radio4 story of how well you are protected.

RE: Big Pockets DVD+R cheap but expensive postage and packing warning

I found www.blankdiscshop.co.uk to be priced about the same (if not better) with much better delivery charges (and service).

Also had a problem with an order from Bigpockets that resulted in them taking money for products they couldn`t supply and then taking a month and a lot of phone calls to get the money back. They also lied several times about refunding me so I won`t be using them again.

Whereas I had a problem with an order from blankdiskshop and they sorted it out straight away.

RE: Finding Nemo UK Cinema Release Date?

For anyone flying with British Airways to the USA its one of the in flight movies at the moment.

RE: Tony Martin

Nice to see the Daily Mail aren`t bitter about not getting his story ;)

Who`d have thought he had another gun that was smuggled from the farm house by an associate that had been used to threaten his only serious girlfriend.

BTW the appeals court only changed his sentance due to finding him of "diminished responsibility" - or `bonkers of the brain` for short - who whould have guessed that ;)

RE: Tony Martin

As I posted on another forum I frequent.

Martin didn`t help his case by:

a. Having an illegal firearm
b. boasting about how he was going to shoot anybody who tried breaking in
c. Saying he came down the stairs and shot, at head hight, into a darkened room without shouting any warning.
d. As the other one ran off he took the opportunity to shoot him in the back.
e. Having a property that looked derelict/uninhabited.

If, for example, it had been two people who had broken down and looking for shelter in a seemingly derelict house - would anyone`s views have been different.

As it turned out, it was a local to me scumbag and his mate. One of whom died while the other was later arrested for selling heroin (outside Newark police station - which should give you a clue as to his intelect )

The police had to charge him because of the pre-meditation, points a and b above, intent (c) and the use of excessive force (d). Like it or not he was found guilty by twelve people who heard ALL the evidence available at the time (apparently later forensics introduce some more facts).

My view? He was a nutter who was going to shoot someone sooner or later. Luckily he shot at people who would be judged as `a bad lot` by anyone who had the misfortune to know them. This led him to become a cause celebre instead of a "Nutter shoots hitch-hiker asking for directions" story.

RE: SONY REMOTE CODES THAT I HAVE FOUND WORK GREAT ?

And the second set look like the instructions for a tectronics mod chip.

Let me have a stab in the dark here - they were on vcdhelp

RE: Techtronics - Be warned!

Quote:
They are selling the multi-region Panasonic E50 at the best price of under £300, is it worth the risk?

Other firm told me they were selling "Grey Imports"? Is it true? Does it matter?

Would going the shop be any better? Dont live too far.

Well since its £295.95 at http://www.digital-point.co.uk, similar at empiredirect (who have a 120% price match) and pretty much just under £300 at all the online retailers - do you want to take the chance?

RE: Anyone know where I can get hold of an old p166 cpu?

Also worth checking:
http://www.mcscom.co.uk/section.php?xSec=13

Their prices exlude VAT however. The 166 system with a cd, 2.1 gig drive etc. is about £20.. The 200MMX system without a CD is about £15

RE: weird al yankovich?

Quote -
The guy is a legend, he has parodied "Mambo No 5" with "Bimbo No 5" and it`s Bill Clinton, fantastic.
"Ugly Girl" (Barbie Girl)
"Make my boobies one more size" (Hit me baby one more time)
"What if God smoked cannabis?" (What if God was one of us?)
-EndQuote

Sorry to say none of those tracks are by Wierd Al - It seems that whenever a parody song is released someone attributes it to him. Check http://www.weirdal.com/faq.htm for more info.

These then spread along the filesharing networks. (I just heard : Weenie in a bottle (Genie in a bottle), Star Trek Rhapsody (a bohemian raphsody parody) [Why would he bother when he did a brilliant poker version on Alapalooza] and Dirty Deeds done with sheep (an ACDC parody). None of those were by him either.

Latest album is `poodle hat` and features a few parodies - Ebay (Backstreet boys - I want it that way), A complicated song (Complicated - Avril Lavine), Couch Potato (Lose Yourself - Eminem), Ode to a superhero (Billy Joel - Piano Man).

Recommend the albums - Poodle Hat, Alapalooza, in 3D, Running with Scissors.

Worth watching UHF (and the Album is excellent)

The DVD`s of the video collections are very funny.

RE: Techtronics - Be warned!

Well according to a quick search on google groups it would still seem relevant (months to get a refund etc..).

At least now they show the VAT inc price on their web site.

RE: Panasonic E-30 Playback Difficulty

The trick with getting bad quality discs out (I`ve got an E20 so its even more touchy) is to hold the power button in for about 20 seconds or so. This causes the machine to switch off. If you then press the eject button the player should kick back into life and eject the disc.

Discs I`ve used - the Datawrite Gen 4s, the Datawrite yellows, Datawrite classics. The best at the moment seems to be any of the discs that use the Ritek g03 dye on them (though they are in short supply so the price has been pushed up).

If you look on sites such as www.121cdr.co.uk they tend to state which machines the dvd-r is compatible with.

RE: What are the greatest comedies of all time?

Two that I bought recently:

UHF - Wierd Al Yankovic comedy about a run down TV station with some `interesting` programs e.g.Bowling for burgers, Wheel of Fish etc.. and the odd parody thrown in.

Strange Brew - Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas as the McKenzie brothers eh? A version of Hamlet set in a Canadian beer factory.

RE: I bet Pete Townsend is loving Matthew Kelly.....

I like the way the press packs were gathering outside Phil Collins` home in Switzerland because they were convinced he was going to be arrested in conjunction with the Pete Townshend case. They then discovered that the rumours had started because the police operation was codenamed `Genesis`.

RE: Philips DVR880 Hack problems!!!!!1

The date of that posting should give you a clue as to how many times its been asked before.

RE: Panasonic DMR E30 region hack?

The hack that dealers are now offering is a firmware upgrade AND a service remote hack so doesn`t look that good for a freely available one.

RE: IMMIGRATION SIMPLIFIED.......

Its one of those problems though isn`t it - if the only way into a country is through illegal means then you are going to deal with a lot of undesirables on the way. Alternatively you are going to need a lot of money to get the fair and what sort of people are going to have that?

My view is the government have messed up in not allowing legal immigration for economic reasons (the green card system like in America) while trying to seem tough on immigration.

For all those that seem to confuse illegal immigrants with asylum seekers then perhaps you could explain how a person who illegally entered the country (without going through immigration control) actually gets any of the benefits.

RE: IMMIGRATION SIMPLIFIED.......

I hear they eat babies too.

RE: Panasonic E-20 a Good Buy?

Thats expensive these days - the E30 is only £400 from a couple of online retailers (e.g. Comet).

Also the E30 can be multiregioned.

The only advantage the E20 has over the E30 is that it`s got a dv input - the E30 is a bit more tolerent to the types of DVD-R it accepts though and has nicer software (apparently).

I`m suprised at how your fact seems to lack any evidence even anecdotal :)

RE: Autopsy on C4

I find it strange in a way that its taboo to show a dead body being operated on but not a live one - does anyone else remember the series `your life in their hands` from the 70s/80s? How about the recent morning programs which showed plastic surgery? Those all made me feel much more uncomfortable than watching last nights program.

The 8 month old corpse was possibly used because it didn`t have any of the unpleasant side effects of disecting a recent one. Can you imagine the complaints C4 would have recieved from the public if they had? I don`t think the sight of an audience throwing up would have been that well recieved. Although as 50% of the audience were journalists.......

C4 have apparently been following the `Professor` around for the last few months for some sort of documentary - this seems to have been the climax of it. They do seem to have bottled it though with their atrocious camera work.

RE: NEC LCD1700NX TFT only £415 Bargain!

They quote it as 25ms response time in the literature on the AOC web site.

http://www.aoc-europe.com/pdf/datasheet_LM720A_eng.pdf

The 15" has 40ms response while the 18" has 23ms response.

It only has analogue in though.

RJS - Well one of the last junk emails I got had a header of:

(Which should tell you I use Pegasus as a mailer :-))

I`ve removed the actual name of the to: recipient (as I don`t think they`d be too happy having their email address put on a public board :-) Needless to say the To: field wasn`t to me (though my address does begin with `D`)

Some of the others have had hundreds of alphabetically listed addresses in the CC field. I`ve checked google etc.. and its not there and I NEVER give that email address out except to friends (I`ve got another account for all the shopping/board ones that is individually tailored to whichever place I`ve used it).

RichardH - I only use the free part of Spamcop to report spammers. It does seem to offer a reasonable service from what I`ve read. It was just the first one I tried.

RE: how did they get my e-mail address

`ve recently started getting lots of spam sent to my NTL account - looking at the header it wasn`t even addressed to me - looks like Spammers (lots from China for some reason) have been using open proxies for mass mailing all possible email addresses at particular domains.

Might be worth getting an email account on www.spamcop.net

Another TFT worth considering is:
http://www.pcnextday.co.uk/product_detail.asp?stype=5&productcode=2050-5022&group=AOC&pgroup=MON

25ms response time

£319 inc VAT

RE: Panasonic DMR-E30 DVD recorder Only £408.90 Delivered!!

"Hi there - this site is now saying only £340 -thats cheaper than the Phillips I`ve seen for £360. Now I`m stuck on which format to chose. Any suggestions from anyone?"

And of course its how much after you add VAT (which their web site doesn`t display until you get to the checkout) ;-)

Currently it seems:
Panasonic -
DVD-R - cheapest blank discs (70p) , compatible with most players
DVD-RAM - great for timeslip, can`t play discs in many players
No Multiregion hacks.

BTW Comet are doing the E30 for 399.99 delivered

Philips -
DVD+R - Not as compatible as -R but getting there, Discs more expensive (£2)
DVD+RW - Much like RAM but without the timeslip
Can be made multiregion.

RE: phillips dvd 756 R1 multiple pictures on screen, any help please

Sounds like your TV doesn`t like the 60Hz signal when you play an NTSC disc.

Solution? Replace TV or use a convertor - both of which are expensive.

RE: Region Free Hack for Panasonic XV10EBS

Tsk! These Dixons salesmen get everywhere.

Perhaps you could be so kind as to explain how the remote mentioned here:
http://side.nexenservices.com/html/categories.php?op=newindex&catid=6

works then :-)

RE: any clever bods able to offer me advice on installing windows 98 PLEASE??

Ramblings that may be useful:

fdisk /MBR fixes the master boot record of the disk drive if its been corrupted.

Have you installed any other OS on the disc? (would explain the partition problem)

Does the fdisk program ask about enabling large disc support when you run it?

Which setup program are you trying to run? (The path name here would be useful)
