Saqib (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 10th December 2003, 13:59

yeah yeah i know splash sux agreed without a doubt. but their prices are good - i got office space (`yeah....about that memo`) for £2.99 with the £2 voucher.

anyhow i want to get the westwing seasons 1 & 2 - they have it listed for £56.99 (minus another £2) which means £55 for two season - aint bad at all.

anyhow my question related to customs - anybody been hit with a charge with orders from splash? i did a search and nada.

I have not been hit by customs but I too was concerned so I emailed Splash (politely) and got this email
"Dear customer

Although we are based in Jersey, it is very rare that there are customs charges on items to the UK. If you do receive a customs charge we would ask you to please send the receipt of the charges and we will fully reimburse you.

Yours sincerely
Steph Jones"

Their delivery times are not good!! but their prices can be :-) and I have always got my DVDs and I liked the email above.

Might not follow with the thread of this thread . . . :/

but I`m told amazon will beat that price because orders over £25 have free postage, and I`ll wager that you`re box set will arrive quicker than anything from Splash

I ordered over £40 of DVDs (and got £10 off) including friends 5 boxed. 4 DVDs in all.

thanks for the reply, but i still have a problem - did you receive the whole order as one package, or was it separate. friends 5 retailed at under £18, so would not have been taxed anyway. you only get taxed on items over £18 in one package, so three dvds at £6 each, shipped together will not get taxed, one dvd worth £20 will.

hence my original question - anybody?

The items were in fact posted separately- so as you say customs would not be a problem.
My original email to splash was to ask them to post the items separately so that I did not get charged import etc duty.
Their reply was the one that I posted earlier.

Just received my `Bo Selecta` box set from them today. Didn`t realise they shiped from outside the UK until I saw the packet.

Can`t believe they are stupid enough to put "value £23.99" on the packet. Isn`t the limit about £18?

The price I paid was £18.99 (used the fiver voucher). Luckily, it was just posted through the letterbox with nothing to pay.

thanks that was what i was looking for.

i thihnk the way it works is if you post an item from within the EU, no tax is charged, whereas outside the EU (which jersey is) and you can get screwed.

thanks again simon! :)
