RE: Cheap Play Equipment at B&Q

There`s a campaign going over on the MSE site to get B&Q to honour the orders:

RE: Battery Bargain ?

You are quite right that recharging alkaline batteries in a standard Ni-Cd/Ni-MH battery charger is asking for trouble (risk of gas build up and explosion). A dedicated alkaline battery recharger is required to do this safely, but as already pointed out these have limitations as to their effectiveness. They DO work, but they will not recharge `dead` or even partially `dead` batteries. You need to recharge the batteries before they have lost too much life, which frankly takes a bit of discipline if you`re going to get your money back on the cost of the charger. Also note that each battery will only recharge up to about 10 times. Despite these shortcomings, I still use mine, especially with the kids toys where I would not risk using Ni-MH batteries for safety reasons.

Other than for things like kids toys, a few sets of Ni-MH batteries and an `intelligent` charger for them is the best way to go. Check out 7day shop for some good prices on these.

RE: BARGAIN GARDEN SHREDDER!

What a shame... desparately want one of these, but I don`t know of any Aldi stores near me (Crawley)... :(

Cheap Digital Camera Memory...

Not heard of this place before, but just came across them.

Only checked for Memory Stick Pro cards, but at £60 ish inc delivery and VAT for a 512Mb card, it seems by far and away the cheapest place I`ve come across.

Anyone used them before?

RE: Paramount 90th Anniversary DVD Boxset Bargain !!

Just got an email from them:
This is an update regarding your recent order of 90th Anniversary (order number xxxxx). We have had an incredibly large volume of orders due to our recent promotion on this title and as a result we are unfortunelty now out of stock. The title is also unavailale at our suppliers and we have been advised that the title will not be available in the forseeable future. Please accept our apologies for any inconvinience caused.

I can confirm that the order has been cancelled and no payment will be taken for the DVD. If payment has already been made by Paypal, the funds will be fully refunded by the close of business today.

Wonder if they ever actually had any stock or they`re using this as an excuse for a pricing error?
Oh well, worth a try :)

Did anyone find out if the one at unbeatable is multi-region?

RE: Blackadder Complete Collection - £25 at CD Wow !

Just a shame this isn`t the R1 set...

RE: Batteries for mattell power wheels ride-ons, US vs. UK

Can also recommend CPC, been using them for over 15 years and never had a problem I`ve not been able to sort out. Excellent service.

RE: The New Poll

For those who`ve never seen it - it`s a bit like Doctor Who - wobbly sets and a budget of about a fiver an episode. Where it really stood out was the scripts, characters and storyline. It regularly attracted pretty large viewing figures too, which I guess is why they made 4 series (52 episodes). If you can see past the dodgy special effects (and you had no choice in those days ;) ) it is worth getting into. It was written by Terry Nation... the same bloke who invented the daleks and the superb `Survivors` (now how many have seen THAT!).

Oh, and I voted for Vila if only because he had some great one liners...

Blake`s Seven Series 1 DVD £17.99

Given the poll, this is rather relavant...
Too bad I already bought it at a higher price >:(

Doh! American Pie 2 on deal of the day now.... :(

RE: Anytime Dial-up Internet Access for just over £4 per month

Price is certainly tempting, not used them before, but they get some very poor reviews over at ISP Review:

Cynical old me thinks this `offer` is designed to raise cash quickly: 5000 x £50 = quarter of a million quid...

Anyone used them before?

Its the `Im all right Jack` syndrome thats absolutely killing this country.

Couldn`t agree with you more, this country is turning more and more into a nation of those who only "look after number one".

RE: Just a warning, in case you are offered one..

Quote:
...and I suppose you are of the thinking that killing someone to protect your goods is a righteous thing to do? You are talking about the ripple effect, so are you going to stop using the internet, because if you do use it as do many others it becomes cheaper, so people download pirate movies\music and mass producers of pirate copies\music are usually drug dealers subsidising their next shipment that they will sell to hard up mothers who in turn shoplift or don`t feed their kids and who in turn are abused

Is that really the best you can do? I`ve heard some weak and tenuous arguments in my time, but this really takes the biscuit, "Theft is all okay because using the internet causes child abuse..."

Quote:
You also all seem to dismiss the fact that I do not agree with theft or actions of it`s kind

Forgive our confusion, but that`s where you contradict yourself sunshine. You readily admit that you are more than happy to buy and sell stolen goods, so who are you objecting to, if not yourself? You may as well have stolen them yourself.

You have to look after number one nowadays

...or, "I`m alright Jack"

So basically you`re saying that theft it okay as long as it doesn`t affect anyone you know.
Pathetic.

RE: Survivors Series 2 being released on DVD

Okay, I admit to loving it and am therefore biased, but in my opinion it has aged surprisingly well compared to other programmes of its era. Given that it was made nearly 30 years ago - once you get past the fashions, cars used etc etc it really shines - its strengths come from the storylines and some (mainly) solid acting. The child actors used are a bit wooden in places, but it doesn`t detract from the overall drama. (For those who haven`t seen it, think of "28 days later" without the zombies).

In fact I would go as far as saying that given the present threat to humanity from terrorists, it is more uncomfortably relevant today than ever. And I do think that that is the key to its success - you sit there watching the aftermath of an unleashed virus wiping out 99.99% of mankind knowing that it could ACTUALLY HAPPEN. What marks it out as quality for me is that it makes you think - how WOULD I cope if everyone died and I was suddenly forced to survive with a handful of other survivors in a world without government, law, order, electricity, cars, shops, farming, medicine, manual skills? It touches on all these areas. As an example, in one of the earlier episodes the question is asked how would you make a table? Sounds simple enough, but how would you cut the timber when the last saw is broken and the last axe is smashed, how would you smelt the metal to make an axe, even how would you mine the metal in the first place?

It`s all utterly abosrbing stuff.

Survivors Series 2 being released on DVD

:D :D :D
Says it all here really...
http://www.survivorstvseries.com/DVD_release.htm

Series 1 was fantastic - best thing on DVD ever (and, no, I don`t think I`m exaggerating).
Can`t wait for Series 2, all I`ve got are my VHS recordings of the UK Gold repeats from a few years ago. Let`s just hope they end up doing (the better IMO) series 3 as well and it will be complete.

Suspect we`ve got some wait though, the ink`s still drying on the contract to do it...!
:D :D :D

RE: Best place to buy R1 DVD over £18 now?

Think you`re right Will K - at £15 cheaper than anywhere else, it`s probably worth taking the risk with DVD Soon.
Thanks for all the help... :)

RE: Best place to buy R1 DVD over £18 now?

Thanks Will K :D

Just checked however, and they don`t do the disk I want >:(
Will remember them for next time though. Thanks again for the tip.

Best place to buy R1 DVD over £18 now?

It seems the only way I can get "All Creatures Great and Small" series 3 DVD (for the wife) is to buy R1. I`m a bit out of date though. There was a time when DVD Soon would have been top of my list for such things, but I understand that they have now started cooperating with customs and putting the true value on the package.

Any suggestions for beating the customs charges? Any supplier prepared to mark it as a `gift` for example? Any help much appreciated.

RE: Terminator 3 R2 (2 Discs) - £8.99

...Or available as part of the 5 for £30 Virgin sale... :)

RE: Tom Hanks in Big Free!!!

Oops, didn`t realise that.
If News of the World is a Sunday paper that probably explains why there were none on sale on a Monday!!! :p

RE: Tom Hanks in Big Free!!!

Everywhere I`ve been it`s all sold out

RE: BP`s radio advert - things men never say...

...along with "do yer nah wot I mean?" on the end of every sentence...

RE: Game Sale

Very good sale - got Indy for £20, MI for £3 and Red Dwarf III for £10.

For anyone interested the Crawley branches have Two Towers, Indiana Jones and Band of Brothers all still in stock.
