Page 1 of PS3 Blu-ray DVD

Hi There

I have just ordered my PS3 ready for when it gets launched I have read in DVD Review that the Blu-ray DVDs aren`t region coded. Could anyone tell me if this is true or not?

Blu-ray will be region coded as follows.

Region code Area
A/1 North America, Central America, South America, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and South East Asia
.
B/2 Europe, Greenland, French territories, Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

C/3 India, Nepal, Mainland China, Russia, Central and South Asia.

Games will be region free.

Do you know if there is a way to make the PS3 multi region at all?

Not that I am aware of.
I am sure its being worked on, however be aware of invalidating your warranty.

and would be a surprise as SONY are notorious for making DVD players that you cant region hack by inputting a code

The PS2 was always hackable via a disc from Action Replay.
This was useful as there was no tinkering about so warranty intact.

I should imagine that someone is working on a similar hack for the PS3.

But with Blu-Ray using region coding and HDDVD not it seems logical that BR will eventually go belly up despite its intial lead on HDDVD.

Once the PS3 sales surge subsides and movie companies want mass market sales figures there will be some serious talk in the US .

But PS3 games are playable worldwide unlike PS2 games so I should just play PS3 and forget about movies until its all settled
