Argos clearance - not to be trusted

Showaddy (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 21st July 2005, 10:03

Placed a reservation for a Binatone walkie talkie set for GBP8.73 on Monday. Argos`s reply said it would be reserved at Dewsbury between Wednesday & Friday. I went on Wednesday - armed only with my reservation number - and was told that the price was now 24.99 but if I had the documentation they could honour the offer. On Wednesday night I printed the documentation (my reservation and the web page still showing a price of 8.73) and returned to Argos Dewsbury on Thursday (today). Here I was told that the price had been upped to 24.99 on Monday, but that they were willing to meet me half way and let me have the set for 12.50. I declined.

I believe that this raises several questions:-
1. Why does Argos make offers it has no intention of keeping?
2. Why show a misleadingly incorrect price on its website?
3. Why post date a reservation until after a price increase has been applied?
4. Why not inform the customer that this price hike has occurred?
5. Why tell a customer on one day that the offer can be honoured with documentation then refuse to do so the following day?

If you can find a bargepole, don`t touch Argos clearance offers with it.

I`ve never experienced that before myself. Its sounds like a scam, but who would have thought the loving, family firendly store Argos would stoop so low.

Itsa funny how the store you were buying it from had increased the price when other stores and the web site hadnt, also reservations clearly state that the price you pay is the price on the day of purchase. Reservations automatically are made for a certain length time before they expire and goods are then returned to stock. You must just be an unfortunate customer and if you dont like the clearance offers that are made (ie your comment on not touching with a bargepole) throughout the year (more so at this time) then there are thousands that do.
Sorry that you havent got your bargain but if i were you i would keep trying or go back to the store and get them to try the price on the internet facility that they can get in the store for the argos website.
I work in one of the stores and sometimes the sytem for some unbeknown reason overnight it reverts prices this can be put back via the manager doing a price override or adjusting it via the main system, they are not trying to con you as suggested but the system puts the prices on overnite we dont have a person that does this manually and errors are inevitable sometimes why else can they justify overpriced wages for some person to put right the wrong the following day hence crap staff wages hope you get sorted tho
