Page 1 of Dvd player repairs

Hi,

I have had an Oppo 981 HD for a few years now and its the best player I have ever had.

However the laser has started acted up and it is refusing to play discs now.

I originally got the player direct from Oppo in America, but as its out of Warrinty its going to cost $57 for the out of period warranty and then shipping there and back.

Anyone know of a some place that repairs them in the UK??? Pleasse!

I have tried a few budget sub £50 players and they stink, I haven`t found one Im comfortable with thats decent.

In this throwaway culture would anyone think to get a dvd player repaired any more? I doubt it so good luck :/

You could try a small local pc repair shop, they might be able to source a compatible drive unit for you.

Can you clarify what you mean by "tried"
Tried them in a shop?
In which case, how do you know they were set up properly?
Tried them at home?
In which case, were you constantly buying/returning players for a while? :/

I bought a Toshiba SD370 some months back.
Around £60 then, around £30 now.
Unbelievable picture quality.
Better than a Panasonic DVD recorder I had in place before, which cost me £300 only a couple of years ago (and which I still have and use upstairs)

I think its a high priced and a high definition player,have you tried a Panny/Sony/Samsung BD player in its place.

Ahem? Did I miss something or has someone finally come around that some people may actually want a HD experience with their TV?
(btw, doesn`t matter if you meant BD Discs or hardware, your previous signature would reflect towards both)

I got my Oppo review sample from a place called CRT Projectors. They are an official Oppo reseller in the UK, so it might be worth giving them a call. I know what you mean about cheap players. I have the 981 and the quality of the upscaling and deinterlacing is much better than cheapo stuff thanks to the Faroudja processing. It also does DVD Audio and SACD, which you won`t get on low-end players.

Failing the repair, they`re currently selling the 981 off at £115 delivered, probably because the 983 superseded it and BDP-83 is coming out soon.

I dont care what people want I have not got to pay or live with it, if somebody wants to buy a wax cilinder or a blue ray and I can help I will, I put a link in bargain buckets for cheap HD discs at HMV a while back, my opinion of HD is just that, my opinion. :)
