speaker/amp Reccomendations

My brother has asked for some advice about upgrading his home cinema.

He has a tv and blu-ray but wants to upgrade the surround system to make use of the blu-ray surround sounds. Can anyone reccomend any speaker/amp sets, he is on a minimal budget.

Thanks for any input.

RE: Any great soundtracks out there?

K-Pax Soundtrack by Edward Shearmur is an excellent score, along the lines of the Solaris, remake but I love anything by Cliff Martinez.

The Star Trek Deep Space 9 - Emisary soundtrack is a very solid disc and considering the TV budget of the time impressive.

Is there a programe that...

I am looking for a programe that will normalise a batch of MP3 files, like what Nero does when you are burning a compilation CD. I have a set of MP3 files that when I listen to them in Windows Media some are very low and then the next loud.

It stops one track from being quiet and the next bursting the speakers.

Is there a programme/addon plugin that would help?

Any advice appreciated.

After a wireless keyboard

Would anyone like to reccomend a wireless keyboard, has to have the numerical pad and ideally have a backlight.

Cheers for any thoughts

Battlestar Bluray, which edition?

Anyone any idea how the Uk blu-ray set compares to the American Region A set. Are all the extras included?

I understand the release is subject to change, and I know about the Cylon figure vs the tin.

Thanks in advance.

Help identifying a film.

Thanks in advance:

1st one is a film about the Bermuda triangle, I can remember a boad with loads of bodies on it and one was suspended in mid air as it turns out by some kind of swordfish.

and the second is still one I have mentioned before its a childrens program from back around 1980`s it had a christmass theme to it. It was about several ghosts, one of which was a choir singer or something, and this child who sees them. Set around the turn of the century kinda naria esque/Toms midnight garden. The boy moves to an old house where he finds an old key in the floorboards, there was one episode near the end where he is out in a forest with trees whistling and making loud noises, I remember it being quite earie.

Bit vague I know

Cheers

Dvd player repairs

Hi,

I have had an Oppo 981 HD for a few years now and its the best player I have ever had.

However the laser has started acted up and it is refusing to play discs now.

I originally got the player direct from Oppo in America, but as its out of Warrinty its going to cost $57 for the out of period warranty and then shipping there and back.

Anyone know of a some place that repairs them in the UK??? Pleasse!

I have tried a few budget sub £50 players and they stink, I haven`t found one Im comfortable with thats decent.

Thanks for any tips.

Developments in the HD War - hmm cat & pidgeons

"
Paramount Pictures has announced that it will drop support for the Blu-ray Disc format and exclusively support HD DVD. The deal will see all Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks Animation titles appear in High Definition exclusively on the format, and affects all territories worldwide.

Snippets from the Press Release follow.

The first Paramount and DreamWorks title to appear exclusively on HD DVD will be the blockbuster comedy "Blades of Glory" on August 28th, followed by two of the highest grossing movies of the year - "Transformers" and "Shrek the Third". These three films alone represent more than $1.5 billion in combined worldwide box office sales.

"The combination of Paramount and DreamWorks Animation brings a critical mass of current box office hits to consumers with a line-up of live action and animated films that are perfect for HD DVD," stated Brad Grey, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, which is currently the leading studio in domestic box office. "Part of our vision is to aggressively extend our movies beyond the theater, and deliver the quality and features that appeal to our audience. I believe HD DVD is not only the affordable high quality choice for consumers, but also the smart choice for Paramount."

"We decided to release "Shrek the Third" and other DreamWorks Animation titles exclusively on HD DVD because we believe it is the best format to bring high quality home entertainment to a key segment of our audience - families," stated DreamWorks Animation CEO, Jeffrey Katzenberg. "We believe the combination of this year's low- priced HD DVD players and the commitment to release a significant number of hit titles in the fall makes HD DVD the best way to view movies at home."

Paramount made sure to mention that new releases on HD DVD will be day-and-date with their Standard Definition counterparts, but also reminded us that the announcement did not include the films directed by Steven Spielberg, which the HD DVD Promotion Group mistakenly announced and then retracted last year. Titles with Spielberg`s involvement - such as Transformers - will still be exclusive to HD DVD.

The HD DVD Promotion Group, the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), nor Paramount were available to comment at the time of going to press. "

Battlestar Galactica Season 3 Query.

Ok, Region 2 Releases Season 3 at the begining of September.

has anyone compared the extras for each region, which Region will be the best.

I have been trying desperatly to avoid spoilers but the length of time its took for them to realise this season is annoying, so will be getting it on day of release probably from Asda as theyseem to be the cheapest.

Help remembering an old Kids programme

I think I remember this programme on Childrens BBC. I have vague recollections of it.

I remember the main character was a kid with glasses in an old house kind of like Toms midnight Garden.

The kid finding a key in his floorboards.

Ghosts, choir singing in an old church - It was kind of christmasy show set at the turn of the century.

There was spooky bit in a garden with lots of trees wind rustling .

Hmm those vague memories are annoying

Thanks for any help
