SKY+ problem

toffeeslot (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 7th April 2005, 15:52

Got a bit of an odd problem with my Sky+. Although I`ve only got about 4 programmes saved on my harddrive (just 3 half hour episodes and one 2hr film) it says I`ve only got 9% space left. This then means that everything fails when trying to record due to the fact that there is `insufficient disk space`. Three of the programmes are series links (my mrs cannot bear to miss Desperate housewives, niptuck or footballs wives!!). - is this the problem?? Anyone shed any light on this?

Cheers
Jim

toffee :)

All I can suggest is the following.
Select Services
Select System Set Up
Press 0 then 1 and then SELECT and you should enter a hidden menu.
Select Sky Planner Rebuild
The system will then do a rebuild/reboot and hopefully then the % remaining should be accurately shown.

Choagy

Thanks for this - I`ll test it tonight. I hope that it doesn`t delete all saved programmes though - my wife will kill me!!!

In my experience with rebuilding via the hidden menu you will lose anything on the hard drive. My understanding is it resets your system as new, when it was installed.

If you have lost anything then the chances are you have not done a rebuild but carried out a new installation or other option.
The rebuild does not delete previously recorded material but you may in some circumstances have to re-enter series link for multiple recordings.

New Installation or Planner Rebuilds will not delete anything from the HDD.However,a planner rebuild is not always guaranteed to return all your lost space. If it doesn`t,instead of selecting Planner Rebuild, select Full System Reset.Note that this WILL delete all recordings and planner entries. It will give you 100% space though, just copy your recordings to VHS or DVD before you do it

Its worked a treat! Went for the planner rebuild and I`ve now got 92% free space and haven`t lost my saved shows or series links! Thanks v v much for your advice.
