Help on setting up system

theclaretvillain (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 29th October 2003, 17:38

Hi - about to reveal my ignorance.

My new Acoustic Energy AEGO P5 has arrived - I have connected it to my DVD and it sounds great.
I cannot see how to connect my TV to the AEGO amplifier so that its sound comes through my new speakers.
What is the best way to connect this lot together?
Aego
Sky digibox
Panasonic VCR
Toshiba SD-220EB DVD player
Toshiba 32ZD98B TV

I am also not sure which connections are best to use SCART, S video etc.

Thx in advance for any help.
Ken

Your Aego should have stereo phono input sockets on the back. Just use a standard stereo phono interconnect to connect the Aego to either the stereo phono outputs on your TV, or (almost definitely the better option) to your Sky digibox, bypassing the TV altogether. Remember to turn the volume down on your TV though when using the Aego though!

You should be able to connect your VCR to the Aego the same way, although if your VCR and digibox are connected to each other, you might not need to as the sound from the VCR may come through the digibox channel on the Aego. It might be worth trying that first before getting another phono interconnect.

Presumably you`ve got a digital interconnect between your dvd and the Aego?

As far as the video output is concerned, I`d go with Scart, although there are others round here who`d go with the S-Video connection.

I hope this helps - shout if you need any more help!

Sorry for the late reply - my b******* hard drive has crashed.

I`ve tried what you suggested - it works great - thx.

I do not seem to get much (any?) sound from the rear speakers. I have tested them - they work ok.
Will they only be used when running DVDs or might some digital TV programmes use them?

Thx
Ken

To be honest I`m not that familiar with the system, but I would have thought you should get something out of them from TV & VCR. It will only be, at best, Pro-Logic surround though... Do they work ok on dvd soundtracks?

Hopefully someone a bit more familiar with the system than me can give you a fuller answer - sorry! ;)
