FAQ - wht buy a Scan?

Moose (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 29th January 2001, 19:52

Come on the real faq is why???

Why is it such good VFM?
Why do you put up with the hassles?
Why don`t you get angry when the calls arn`t answered
ditto emails
Why don`t you mind if you have 3 or 4 replacements?

If you are all taking happy pills can I have some please.

and before you all get stressed at me (rather than the great people at Scan) I`m not slagging the machine off, I`m jusy really interested why you put with it.

Simple.

It is the best value for money machine avaliable at present. The picture quality is better than machines at 3 or four times the price.

Scan owners can upgrade and improve their players themselves via firmware emailed from scan.

Most of the expensive models do not have half the features that the scan has.

Scan are one of the few companies that will do a next day drop and pick if there are problems with the player.

Scan get a bad time of it, i know cos i have had 3 faulty machines, and admittedly their customer service has been poor in the past.BUT scan have realised that and their customer services have continued to improve.
It is now a damn sight better than it was.I myself have noticed the improvements in after sales care and improvements in the product.

The machine still has a few bugs but these,im sure, will be ironed out in the forthcoming months.

Simple.
1. It plays mp3`s better than any other machine out there - shuffle mode, you can select any track, displays tracks on screen with directories - will soon have long filenames, plays all mp3 formats - VBR and CBR, quick mp3 file reading, on CD-R or CD-RW, 74 or 80 minute CD`s or overburnt CD`s - sounds excellent too. Something only Aiwa and Toshiba owners dream about.

2. Oh and it will play any DVD, VCD, SVCD you throw at it. LG?

3. Is supported by a supplier who will refund or replace at no cost to you if there is a fault.

4. Has a very useful 2x 4x 8x 16x 32x and 64x mode. Toshiba?

5. Nice remote control. Toshiba?

6. Has macrovision disable and multiregion capability without needing any additional "chipping" to complicate the warranty and increase the cost and decrease the life. Toshiba?

7. Costs about £175 delivered to your door.

8. Because it p***es off people who have paid a lot more and have less features. This is not a reason to buy a Scan - just an observation.

9. It is firmware upgradeable by a company that takes an active interest in this forum.

10. Scan owners tend to be a lot happier in life and be more content. This is evident by the lack of Scan owners slagging off other people on this forum.

Apart from those reasons, I struggle to think of a further single reason.
