www.multiregionnmagic.co.uk

beware the Multiregion magic auto mod for this player will not play RCE whereas our manual R1 and R2 mod will ....

The manual region mod does have it`s drawbacks though .... when set to Region 1 you loose RGB output so your TV must be able to handle NTSC....

I`m trying to be as impartial as I can here ..... here is the comparision ..

www.dvdchips.co.uk
Manual mod - R1 and R2 - RCE Compatible - Macro On - Fitting Difficult - £25 DIY

www.multiregionmagic.co.uk - Auto all Region - Not RCE Compatible - Macro on - Fitting Easy- £30 DIY

www.techtronics.com - Auto and manual - RCE Compatible - Macro off - Fitting Difficult - £85 DIY plus VAT !!

There is no doubt that the Techtroncics mod is the best but it depends how you feel about the price ....

Its not impartial Steve - its yet another attempt to get a customer for your company.

Apart from getting the prices wrong (the MRM one is £29), neglecting the MRM manual select mod which obviously exists as the previous poster said he had one (just checked their web site and it isn`t listed though), the RGB loss for R1 only occurs with the manual mod you are selling. The TT one, or the MRM one, does not. The reason you do not offer the full mod is no doubt due to your inability to get hold of the firmware ICs.

The reason a lot of people don`t offer the manual mod for Sonys is that it involves changing a surface mount firmware IC and the cockup to success ratio is rather high for those without the correct tools to fit it. Apart from that they are very hard to get hold of at the moment.

You are starting to sound like Techtronics using words like `beware` in your postings strangely ironic considering the mod you are offering is the one Techtronics warn about on their web site.

I was only one off :)

So in summary again .. the drawbacks ......

MRM - Not RCE Compatible
DVDChips - Loose RGB Output
Techtronics - Expensive

And very unhappy when people sell pirate copies of their E-Mod dongle ;-)

Also to add your `magic mod` 536 is not RCE compatible either.

Summary to original poster: Go for an Auto/Manual mod if you want full compatability with no loss of functionality, doesn`t matter where you buy it from. Usual places recommended are:

http://www.linkonline.co.uk
http://www.upgradeheaven.co.uk

For other recommended suppliers check out the `Retailer Reviews` forum here.

That would be the auto mod you have on the title page of your site (directly under the manual mod). On reading it again I see its not marked as `MAGIC` so its going to be the take the eeprom off and reprogram it variant. The non-RCE functionality would be the same as the MRM PIC based mod.

(Just re-read the thread after posting - oops - I read it as Multiregion `magic mod` instead of `multiregion magic` mod. A grammatical cockup similar to those buying `PSX2 Original box`). You don`t say any of them are `Magic mods`.

Steve> Agreed but for those who cant fit this mod or dont want to pay an arm and a leg for the full manual / auto mod there are other options available

True. But I wonder how many times retailers have been asked `does this disable RGB? etc..` because of the mod you are offering (and the associated Techtronics `Our mods are the best` advert)

Glad to see we are keeping this debate constructive rather than it turning into a slagging match as so easily could have happened .....

Loss of RGB on OUR D.I.Y Manual Region mod for the Sony 535/6 735 players when the player is set to region 1 is not ideal ... BUT we clearly state the message below on the user instructions page for these mods ..

"Please note : When region 1 is selected the player is fooled into thinking it is a Region 1 player ... for this reason RGB outputs will not be present on the scart in this mode. The effect of this is that in order to view region 1 disks in colour your TV must be NTSC compatible"

We could easily make auto (not RCE compatible) DIY mods for these players but feel that RGB loss is better than RCE incompatibility .....
We may make and offer these mods anyway in the near fiture so that the customer can make their own choice ....

The mod we sell for the Sony 335/6 is an auto mod that is not RCE compatible and therefore has the same functionality as the MRM mod ... we offer this because the Manual region select mod doesnt work on this model and we see this option as a second choice .... Customers are warned when they click the "buy it" link that the mod isnt RCE compatible .....

On our "RCE" page you will see this text ...

"Unfortunatley a small number of our mods are affected and will not play this disk .. they are listed below. Sony 335/336/535/536/735 AUTO mods .. the manual mods DO work"

Nothing is hidden and all the information is there for the potential customer to make an informed choice ....

Credit should also go to MRM for also stating that their mod is not RCE compatible .....

for full Auto/Manual and Macro disable mods on these player which we are unable to offer customers should check out the following sites (not all sites listed may offer this mod) ...

www.upgradeheaven.co.uk

www.dvdmods.co.uk
www.dvdireland.com
www.dvdupgrades.ch

Sorry if I missed anyone ...

Over to you Chris for the last word on this ... nothing that I need to reply to please as this discussion if it needs to be continued would be best done by email and not on this forum
