Recorded VHS or Bought VHS?

WPKenny (Competent) posted this on Monday, 14th May 2001, 12:50

Do you guys find that tapes you`ve recorded from DVD are better or worse quality than a bought tape of the same film? I was just wondering because I have a bought copy of Alien on VHS and my mate has it on DVD. If I recorded over my bought copy would it imprve the quality?

I have a Mico A980 and I can copy to VHS fine but I still think a bought VHS tape is of better Quality.

I think it depends on the quality of your VCR and how good the original tape was in the first place - but generally, I find tapes I record myself (from DVD, TV etc.) are better quality than pre-recorded tapes.

A word of advice though WPKenny - use a new blank tape, rather than record over a pre-rec. At least then you`ll be able to compare them!

Dont record over you original as that would be silly as if you had a macrovision problem you would end up with a unwatchable video tape !
buy a grade A branded vhs cassette and record in standard mode not long play and it would be even better if you have a s-vhs video recorder as the pictue would have more lines on the screen hense a better quality reproduction (i have a s-vhs jvc and its good ijn standard mode)
the latest s-vhs recordes have the ET function that lets you record in s-vhs on standard cassettes...baz
