How do I fix the low sound output on my Scan 2000?

Red Leader (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 15th January 2001, 22:12

The volume from my Scan 2000 is sometimes very low through a scart cable. I had the key sequence to up the volume, but I have mislaid it and cannot find it again on this site. Could anybody help? Thank you.

Red Leader.

It`s an older model by the way, not the Stop/Step/Angle code.

think you can find the page you`re looking for by going to `Forums --> Region Hacks`, then by clicking the `Multi Region Hack Pages` link towards the top of the page. Should be able to find your way easily from there. Incidentally..any feedback about the performance on this machine would be appreciated, as I`m considering getting one myself...mind you (says he adding something on21/01/01) I`ve just bought the latest `DVD Review` and they decribe it as `A dismal budget box afflicted with terrible picture`...so..who do I believe eh???

Thanks Alan, I have managed to work it out now by combining what I could remember with the info on the hacks page.

On the whole I`m pretty pleased with my player. I did have to change two when I first got it back in September. One had the problem where the subtitles kept coming on, and then that was swapped for one that did exactly the same thing. They eventually sent me the firmware update which I installed myself and since then it has been OK. The low sound is a bit of a pain, and it always switches my TV into 16:9 mode which is a pain. Apart from that the main reason I bought it is for playing mp3 CD`s which works fine, and for playing VCD`s and SVCD`s. It pretty much plays anything in that respect, including non-standard variations. I use it for creating master discs of my own work which I can then easily dub to VHS.

When playing back some DVD`s I have occasionally seen some slight blocky artefacts in the shadows, but generally the picture is pretty good.

No problem Red, and thanks for the info. As a complete and utter Virgin when it comes to DVDs I have no idea what `artefacts` are, so they can`t hurt me. Will call the Scan people and discuss with them whether they`ve sorted things out in the last few months. I`ve also noticed that all the reviews they`ve pointed people to have barely mentioned these glitches (reviewers are probably sleeping with the managing director`s daughter..or wife..or perhaps the MD himself). I`m sure I`ve seen a fix for the automatic 16:9 mode somewhere though so I`ll kep an eye out.

They are not bad ( if you get one that actually works that is )

I also got the scan for the MP3 capabilities. I was watching the matrix the other day and in the fight scene there was silvery shadows appearing now and again.. apart from that I think it`s not bad. It would be better if they could display the mp3 song names/albums....

Maybe next upgrade ????

I have the 2.04s firmware on my SCAN and I found out today that
`RF-OUT` is available via the standard audio menu and works a treat. I don`t know if this means the `line level` output is disabled...
