If its the same one I am looking at on their website, its £99.99 here:

http://www.aldi.co.uk/

Its not actually a DVD recorder, its just a freeview box that can record onto the 80GB Hard Disk. I thought that HD in the title was High Definition, silli me :p . LOL!

Here is the description from the website:

If it`s the same one they had a while ago, a lot of people over on DigitalSpy ended up taking theirs back - a bit flakey, IIRC.

The `one they had a while ago` was under the Technotrend brand name ( Technosonic PVR101 ). That unit did have some teething troubles, but with the recent release of firmware version 1.6, the unit became very usable and virtually all known `bugs` were fixed!

The unit that Aldi will be selling this week is under the `Tevion` brand name, although it looks very similar in appearance to the `Technosonic PVR101`.

I`m guessing that Aldi will be selling the Tevion unit with the v1.6 (or equialent) Technosonic firmware. It is unlikely that they are going to sell a unit with inherent `bugs`. (I think they will have learnt their lesson from the last time!)

That being the case, it should be a good buy. :D

Sorry guys I missed the point that it can`t be a DVD recorder without having a DVD slot.
Still seems a good buy though.

Does sound good, then. Must admit I`ve just bitten the bullet and gone for a Humax 9200 - not put the new firmware on yet, but shall be doing so as soon as I can get half an hour to crawl around and fiddle.

I had one of the technosonic ones in November/Decemder or whatever it was and took it back 2 days later.

I do know 2 people who kept them waiting for the fixes.......One is now ecstatically happy with his, the other when just died after the second update.

If it had worked it was a brilliant machine. It impressed me so much that I have spent the time since then looking for a suitable replacement. I have so far tried 4 other machines, going ever upwards on the price scale (and they were without exception VASTLY inferior to the technosonic in terms of spec and usability).

I now have a topfield that cost £250. Has a larger disc but basically does the same thing. It is a light year ahead in customisabilty so I`m quite happy at spending the extra money
and at last getting a reliable (almost bug free) PVR.

If this one is similar to the technosonic in terms of features and price and is relatively bug free, then its a bargain I reckon.
