Cheap freeview box

Spen (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 23rd June 2005, 20:48

Just bought a cheap freeview box from my local Sainsbury`s.
It`s an Akura AOP01STB.
Really easy to set up. Decent instructions in decent English. Good picture quality. Twin scart sockets.
It even came with a scart lead.
Best of all, it only cost £17.49.

Blimey Spen that is cheap. Been looking for a cheap Freeview Box for quite awhile. Will go perfectly with my £25 Argos TV brought recently.

Only two quick questions - which store, and is this nationwide?

Hi Marixon,
I don`t know if it`s nationwide - I couldn`t find it on their website.
I bought mine at the store in Sale, Cheshire.
It was supposedly reduced from £34.99 (I think).
They had quite few others on the shelf, so it wasn`t just discounted `cos it was the last one.

Damn.....time to spend some money at Sainsburys again. There`s a few big stores around where I work/live, so I`ll post back if it`s priced the same elsewhere.

Cheers again Spen

I can shed some light on this.....
They are a clearance item and the manager in Sale was the only person in the store from whom I could get any sense about the whole affair.
Initially , at 6 PM tonight, I asked 2 staff about these & they told me they did not sell them and the nearest store that might have them would be the Altrincham branch.
So I went home, printed out this thread and confronted the same staff with it.
They led me to the manager who confirmed that they DID have them and the last one went sometime this afternoon :-(
He cannot tell which other stores might have them either.
He also said that it`s possible they were actually sent to the Sale store in error.
So if you want to try at other branches, I advise you to take a printout of this thread with you !

I too have been to my local Sainsbury`s and it is also £34.99 :( :( - the staff said it must be a regional offer as they do their pricing on a regional basis.

Thanks to the poster perhaps next time - come on Sainsbury`s do this as a national offer and you will get the punters in!
