Jackie Chan`s "Police Story 3" -subtitled- for only £5.46!

If you look at DVDpricecheck, and leave it at that, you`ll thinkthat only dubbed Disney region 1&2 versions
are available of this great film. Well, just try - www.dddhouse.com - and you`ll find subtitled region 0
versions from both MegaStar and Deltamac (which I believe is supposed to be the better edition) for only
HK$40+$30 s&h. Now, that`s £3.12+£2.34 for airmail. £5.46! My copy arrived this morning and I couldn`t
wait to see that wonderful stunt where Michelle Yeoh, hanging from a speeding van, flips out of the way of an
approaching bus with split-second timing. Breathtaking!

Why on earth did Disney release a dubbed-only version? Can`t be cost, surely - or do they really have
such a low opinion of the public`s taste and intelligence? And off on a tangent, I don`t know if any of you
caught it on tv recently, but that wonderful french swashbuckler "Le Bossu" (The Hunchback) is only
available in a French-only NO-SUBTITLES version. Now doesn`t that strike you as insane? The film was a
great international success, and a subtitled version is obviously available, so why not release THAT and
increase the potential market a thousand-fold. Both decisions are patently absurd.

And before I go, if you haven`t bought "SOAP" yet, do it now! I`ve spent the last month watching one
episode a day so that I could really savour it, and it`s even funnier than I remember. And DVDSoon is the
place to go.

I keep getting this title wrong! Is this the one known as Supercop here or is this Police Story 3 which I believe is unavailable as Region 2?

Think the Deltamac edition is in mono. I haven`t bothered getting this yet - I have a number of Deltamac titles and their quality is underwhelming to say the least. Think a lot of them are laserdisk transfers?

Unfortunately, this is one of those classic movies where you can`t get a decent version anywhere. The Disneyed version is a no-hoper, being edited and dubbed. Doesn`t it even have that terrible US music soundtrack with lots of awful rap, and Tom Jones doing a rendition of `Kung Fu Fighting`? (shudder)

Haven`t kept an eye on the movies that HKL have lined up, but hopefully they`ll get the rights to do this one justice at some point. Anyone heard if that`s the case?

I think the current R2 `Supercop`s are actually Project S (Supercop 2), Yeoh`s character from PS3 in a follow up movie, with a little cameo from Jackie (in drag). Alright if you`re a Yeoh fan, but disappointing if you thought you were getting PS3!

Well, Stuart, this is definitely the original "Police Story3" aka "Supercop", and not "Supercop2".

Mike - I`ve got no problems with the disk as I don`t mind the lack of stereo. And the Deltamac version went on eBay for 26 quid a
couple of weeks ago, with the following comments:-.

Video Aspect Ratio: 2.35:1 (Letterboxed) - in better condition than the Mega Star DVD
Audio: Cantonese and Mandarin synch sound languages - Original Dolby Digital - NOT the terrible 5.1 remix the Mega Star DVD had
Optional Subtitles: English, Traditional & Simplified Chinese
Reversible Cover
Trailer
Interactive Menu
Scene Selection
All Region - NTSC
DVD Released by Deltamac

With regard to the Disney dubbed version, the thought of Tom Jones singing "Kung Fu Fighting" on the soundtrack IS a little bit
frightening!

You can`t go wrong at this price, can you......

You certainly can`t go wrong at that price. I used to use ddd a lot a couple of years back - although since I`ve been shopping at Yesasia more. When you can get flicks like this and Jet Li`s Tai-Chi Master for just a couple of quid, you can`t say no.

Need to try ddd again, they do seem cheaper these days. Yesasia`s Amazon-ish interface and shopping basket is handy though...
