Optical connection

This is a method of transferring digital sound information from the DVD player to an amplifier or decoder. An optical connection turns the sound data into optical information which is then transferred as light down a fibreoptic cable. An optical link is a tiny square connector with a glass bulb at the end, and is often referred to as a TOSlink. This digital connection allows the higher information rate needed for DTS and Dolby Digital soundtracks.
