IMPORTANT - DVD Reviewer Forum Rules

The Prime Directive

"Your message(s) should be reasonable, appropriate, on subject, and as accurate as possible."

The Rules
Last updated on 22nd October 2003

  • NO Excessive Use of Foul or Abusive Language
  • NO Spamming
  • NO Flaming
  • NO Commercial Advertising
  • NO Breach of Copyright Material
  • NO Bootlegs, Scams or Any Other Theft or Unlawful Activity
  • NO Multiple Posting
  • NO Spoilers
  • RESPECT the Forum Moderators and Administrators

Foul or Abusive Language

Please control your use of "vulgar" language or profanity and keep it in context! If you absolutely must use a "strong" word, please exercise discretion and use asterisks or other "filler" to obscure it. If you forget, we will most likely edit your post or delete it if necessary.

Spamming

It's perfectly OK to ask questions, make comments... even issue challenges (so long as you are civil), but if you flood the forums with irrelevant information, you will be warned, and on a repeat offence, banned. Most ISPs have strict rules forbidding spamming. If you're a persistent offender, we may contact your ISP and report you.

Flaming

"Flaming" is defined as a personal, malicious or judgemental attack on another person or on the forums in general, and will not be tolerated. Heated discussion is fine. However, this is a public forum and there may be children and 'newbies' around, please treat them with tenderness and care - not everyone is a DVD guru. Sometimes people ask "how can you tell a flame from a strong opinion?" It's not always an easy call - It's difficult to divine someone's intent on the Internet. A warning will be given if you're overstepping the line.

Advertising

This is a matter of common sense. Discussion of a particular bargain or retailer is fine (indeed, desirable in the Bargain Bucket Forum) It's also OK to put up links to your homepage or favourite sites (including commercial sites) or to post information about discs, books, software, or other products you think other visitors may find informative or useful. If your chief purpose in posting here is to sell a product, however, please refrain. Chain letters, pyramid schemes, 'paid-to-surf' referrals and solicitations are absolutely prohibited. We do not offer a free advertising service. If you wish to discuss advertising opportunities on DVD Reviewer please email

Copyright

Please do not post articles, jokes, photographs or graphics that don't belong to you! If it isn't your original work or a "free graphic" available to anyone on the web, it is not legal for DVD Reviewer to publish it. It's OK to post LINKS to articles that have been published elsewhere on the web, to paraphrase, to quote brief passages, or to put up graphics/photos that you have created/taken or otherwise have legal ownership of. If you don't know the author of something you want to share with us, please indicate "author unknown" and, if possible, credit the source where you found it.

Images

When posting links to images please ensure that other users of the forum will not find it offensive, that you are legally entitled to link to that image. Linking to images in signatures is a practice strongly discouraged. Also please try and avoid linking to images and consuming bandwidth on other servers without permission. We recommend you upload the image to your own personal webspace and link to it when stored there. Remember images are subject to the same content rules as all other submissions to our forums, including but not limited to flaming, advertising, breach of copyright material, abusive, unlawful, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, homophobic, xenophobic, and so on.

Legality

You must not suggest, engage in, procure or encourage any illegal activity. Do not post messages that violate International, National, European, State, or Local laws which include, but are not limited to, anything that violates a copyright, trademark, patent, registered design or trade secret. Links provided to locations that so deal with any such activity, or contain copyright material, are also expressly forbidden.

Multiple Posting

Please refrain from posting the same message in different forums. Pick the forum most suitable to your query and try there. Wait to see if you receive any replies before considering posting again elsewhere. Moderators will delete multiple posts leaving one in the most appropriate forum.

Spoilers

To spoil the details of a film for other readers of the Forums is unacceptable. Please refrain from posting anything which might give away storylines, plot points, twists or finales in your posts without adequate warning. If any such information is included in your post, please ensure that it is necessary for the post, and that the word "SPOILER" in capital letters is included in your subject title. Posts breaching this rule will be deleted immediately without warning.

Respect

Forum Admins and Moderators are giving up their free time to provide this site for your entertainment, and that of other Internet users. They are not power-crazed God-monsters who apply their powers without good reason. Respect their presence, and don't use it as a reason to pick a fight. Be aware that Moderators do not need to explain their reasoning, and their decision is FINAL.

The Small Print

Your use of the DVD Reviewer forums is subject to your agreement to restrict your posting of any unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, profane, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable material of any kind, including, but not limited to, any material which encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offence, violate the rights of others, or otherwise violate any applicable local, state, national, or international law.

You also acknowledge that any opinions, advice, statements, services, offers or other information or contents made available on the forums are those of their respective authors who are solely responsible for their content. DVD Reviewer does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any content and we neither adopt nor endorse nor are we responsible for the accuracy or reliability of any opinion, advice or statement posted. Under no circumstances will we be liable for any loss or damage resulting from anyone's reliance on information or other material placed on the forums. Each individual assumes full responsibility for the content of anything posted by such individuals and each reader assumes full responsibility to evaluate independently the accuracy, completeness and usefulness of any information or other content.

DVD Reviewer reserves the right to edit, reprint, distribute or remove any postings for any reason. All postings and user information are logged and can be traced. DVD Reviewer reserves the right to cancel and modify these rules for any reason at any time, without notice. It is your responsibility to review these rules periodically.

We do our best to ensure security and privacy at the DVD Reviewer Forums, however no extremely sensitive information should ever be submitted as part of your registration, profile, or postings. We make no guarantee of privacy. You are solely responsible for the content of your message(s), and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless DVD Reviewer with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s). We reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by you.

Before posting a question which might have been answered before, take advantage of the 'search' feature that the forum software has. Doing a search on "Apocalypse Now" will list every thread with relevant information that may help you if you want to ask whether this disc is to be released soon. However, try not to flame someone asking a question which has been discussed previously - point them in the right direction for their answer.

If you are asking a technical question, please check the DVD FAQ's or the Glossary section to ensure that the answer is not there first.

Consider the subject matter of any new topic before you enter it, and try to post in the most appropriate forum. Posts which are clearly in the wrong forums will be deleted, rather than moved, due to the workload on moderators.

Moderators and Admins frequently review forum posts for those which are in violation of these rules. Any message found to be in violation may be deleted or amended without warning or explanation to the author. Extreme cases of abuse will incur a suspension of posting rights. Repeat violators will have posting privileges suspended.

Any attempt to circumvent bans imposed by the Moderators and Admins will result in DVD Reviewer taking the matter up with your ISP.

By posting to the DVD Reviewer forums you are agreeing to abide by these rules in their entirety.

Please help make this a friendly discussion area for everyone by exercising restraint and self-monitoring. Always remember there's a REAL person on the receiving end. This is a fun hobby and passion. We're all here to share in it in one way or another.
