Yeah very tough start, even the away games in West Brom and Sunderland aren`t the easiest.

If you do pick up a few points over that period though, it could be a positive start to the season and the other one fortunate thing for getting the difficult games at that point, means that you avoid them being after playing Europa games on the Thursday night.

Seems nailed on Siggurdsson is coming now.

Not sure where he`s going to play, with Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson, Adam, Cole, Aquilani, Spearing already playing in the centre?  Assume there must be some planned movement there.

Regardless he`s a good young player, who will definitely score some screamers!

Apparently Spurs offered almost twice the wage Liverpool have - so that`s where Gylfi`s off to.  Shook Rodger`s hand on it last week too.. :(

Interesting you are saying double as Spurs wage ceiling is £65,000 (which is what Modric/Bale earn).

I can`t imagine Liverpool were offering to make him the 9th highest paid midfielder at club (behind Gerrard, Cole, Maxi, Aquilani, Downing, Adam, Lucas, Henderson).

I know Liverpool are trying to control the wage bill and get rid of some of the above but I can`t imagine Spurs are offering double what Liverpool are surely? If they are I would be very worried about other targets this summer :s.

I heard that is no longer the ceiling either...
I said `almost` too. :)
I think that is silly money to sign him on for an `unproven` though.  I`d have thought 35/40 a week and re-negotiate after 12/18 months if all was going well.  Apparently Spurs offered a great package which made him change his mind.  Word was 60k+/week. :/
EDIT: just swa this on BBC.
Quote:
Liverpool are refusing to bow to Gylfi Sigurdsson`s wage demands but have not yet given up hope of beating Tottenham in the race to sign the midfielder. Spurs are prepared to offer a more lucrative financial package for the 22-year-old Iceland international.

Oh yeah don`t get me wrong around £40k is reasonable, it`s just the fact with Siggurdsson you`d probably class him as "proven" for Rodgers as he`s played under him twice.

It could be a case that FSG aren`t allowing themselves to get into a position like last year where they commit to the wages and new players on the basis of others leaving and then struggling to get rid and having to pay players off to leave.

Strange that Spurs are committing forward with the transfer with no manager in place though.

From what I`ve seen I like Siggurdsson, but I don`t think he`s essential for Liverpool if you are looking at limited transfer funds this summer, as you have quite a bit of depth in central midfield anyway (if you include Aquilani, Cole especially).

Liverpool have agreed a fee of £15million with Swansea for Joe Allen apparently.

Interesting one.

I quite like what I`ve seen of him and seems a pretty good player.  Whether he`s £15million and what you need, I am not so sure.

According to sky:
Cardiff are favourites to sign Craig Bellamy on a free and Liverpool are also considering selling Manchester City target Daniel Agger to raise funds for other signings.
It seems so far we are selling/releasing but not really signing much at the moment.
