DVD SOON - BEWARE

blackrat (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 7th September 2004, 20:45

An order for `World at War - Box Set` was returned to DVD Soon for replacement as it had the wrong DVDs in the box!

They insisted on following their replacement procedure and threatened to end my account if I obtained a credit card refund as I am of course entitled to do.

DVD Soon ordered a replacement, but a couple of months later cancelled the replacement order saying that it has been discontinued and replaced with a more expensive set.

They have kept the money ($100), and not refunded or credited my account. They have not answered weeks of e-mails. This is 6 months old now - I think I have been very patient.

A phone call to Canada (cost me lots) got a promise of a refund which they have not done.

I have had dozens of orders from them without complaint but they are VERY poor if there is a `non - standard` problem - beware.

The mixed reaction of people to DVD Soon puzzles me. :/

Like your situation blackrat, everyone seems to rave about them UNTIL something goes wrong. Then it seems you`re up s*** creek.

I`ve had DVD boxsets with the wrong or missing discs from Amazon, and they have been suberb! (they sent me out a replacement box once as it would be too expensive to return the item in question to the States) But i guess thats trade-off - bigger company = pricier but better comeback if anything goes wrong. Although some small companies can be equally as yielding.

I haven`t ordered from DVD Soon because of the mixed comments, and don`t think i will now, just in case!

What are doing about it now? Consumer direct, i`ve found, can be infinately more accomadating to consumer issues than your local trading standards office -

you also need to inform you`re credit card provider about this, as it will be against the t&c`s dvd soon have to sign in order to be able to accept credit cards, it`s also balckmail, ie, they try to THREATEN you into doing/not doing something, "or else" :/ not a very good way for a company to behave, make all this clear when you contact the credit card provider, i would do a draft letter first, then go through it point by point untill you know you have made you`re position clear, as you say, you are entitled to query this with you`re card provider.

good luck :D

Theres a few ways of phoning Canada on the cheap without £20 quid phonecards.

Using a mobile txt TRAIN to 83006, places a charge of £3 against your mobile account, then you dial national number followed by international number, calls cost 1p/min + call charge by the provider. (Sorry if its vague - took details down & never used the service)

Alternatively companies like Telco & Onetel have good rates to contact the other side of the Alantic.

Best of luck in your dispute & keep us informed.
