powerplaydirect.co.uk - Any good?

babyfaceuk (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 9th March 2004, 12:04

Power Play Direct have an almost identical layout and design as Play.com. I found this site through Google and their prices are similar to Play but has anybody used these before and are they any good?

Loads of insurance compaines use Powerplay Direct as their supplier of entertainment stuff, so they should be pretty good when it comes to a prompt service. I used to work for Zurich`s Complaints department - we used them as a supplier, and I can`t remember ever having heard a bad word about them.

I discovered them the other week and ordered a cd from them but they sent me the wrong version. the delivery was a bit slow but i think that`s also happening with the likes of play.com, but hey, they picked up the phone when i rang so that`s definitely something they`ve got going for them versus some other e-tailers.

They seem fair enough, they`ve got a couple of other non-chart cd`s i`d like, that are pretty cheap. I`ll see how the return of my item goes and post again.

After splashdvd`s (they will mentioned no more) mentions of items being in stock within a certain timeframe, I`m slightly spurious about what they have in stock and have yet to try them for items out of stock.
For in stock items, however, they seem alright. Slightly slow posting (about 5 days maximum), but cheap prices...

I`ve had a number of items now from powerplaydirect.com. one item took just over a week to arrive, but everything else has been quicker.

They seem very similar to Play.com and show you when items are in stock or not. The packaging seems to indicate they are in Guernsey, which would explain longer delivery times. They seem pretty competitive on price, i`ll wait and see how they get on with a couple of pre-orders!

In reply to my previous message - I got my refund ok (item + postage, within a few days). i`d rather have had the item but they said they couldn`t get it but they were nice enough to phone up and say so.

I`ll probably use them again but I may e-mail to check the availability of rarer stuff beforehand.

:D I`d like to write in support of this new website. I have used the likes of Amazon, Jungle and Play for years and I can`t iterate enough how relieved I was to have been referred to Powerplay. Pricing is always the best, delivery prompt and customer services fantastic. On top of this I have made many purchases I maybe wouldn`t have done because of the clever, satirical reviews which accompany many of the DVD`s and games. A refreshing change from the usual `industry standard` blurb you will read from the competition. I would recommend Powerplaydirect to anyone and everyone that asked, with an almost worrying enthusiasm

Just ordered from them today. My item was not in stock but in their email it states they won`t charge you until the item is despatched. That sets them apart from SP**** who ripped everyone off by taking the money up front.

Expected delivery date is given as 3-10 days. I`ll be keeping a close eye on them and will cancel if I don`t get the goods within 14 days max.

What can I say Mr Sellings but how right you are. It really does make a change to come across a reviewer who really knows his subject. It must take hours and hours to come up with clever and witty reviews as on this site and I can well imagine many many hours of overtime have been put in to accomplish this feat!
I placed an order only a couple of weeks ago for the all time "Only Fools and Horses" classic "To Hull and Back". It arrived within a matter of days, quicker than I could drive to Hull and back in a van!! It does make me smile ;-) Anyway, must dash....wine in the fridge!!!! Toodle pip!!! Isn`t Mr Sellings an anagram of Ring Smells? Ooooerrrrrr
