I Tunes - Exporting playlist to TXT file or to Excel

close to the edge (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 18th December 2007, 23:45

I have found that you can export a playlist to a txt file, but when exported all tracks are jumbled up with no structure to be able to read properly. Can this file be exported to Excel or WinWord in such a way as it is tabulated or otherwise formatted to allow for easy reading/printing?

Help please.

Note, I am trying to export playlist of approx. 2000 songs. So that I know what is on the Ipod Classic (80Gb).

Is there any other way to do this with a 3rd party program?

Thanks in advance.

iTunes export song list to txt works fine for me.
It just comes out as a tab separated file. Open in Excel and it works great.

If you`re just viewing the txt file in notepad I could understand it looking a bit confusing
Turn off the "Word Wrap" option (in the "Format" menu) and then see how it looks.

Winamp can export playlists to an HTML file, so you can do what you like with it.

I used to love Winamp but went off it around version 4 (IIRC).
Downloaded it again last weekend and really just didn`t get on with it.

I have to admit I`m now an iTunes convert!

(I do miss the "It really kicks the llama`s ass" that used to play when you first fired Winamp up though)

They released v3 which was so incredibly w***, they skipped version 4 and released v5 to emphasise how different it was.

I still use winamp on the PC. If you put on the classic skin, its just much easier to use and is far more versatile. Its also more stable and you can use it to synch your iPod if you want.
