Building a new pc -------Again---------

MADTheOgster (Elite Donator) posted this on Saturday, 5th August 2006, 22:28

well, this is something i`ve been discussing across various threads & i think i`ve nailed down a provisional spec, any advice/coments welcome :)

CPU E6600 Core Duo
GFX x1900XT Pci Express running 40 pipes +512meg GDDR3

1Gb PC2-5300 DDR2 667MHz (will increase to 2 gig eventually)
Xclio A380 SuperTower Silver with Window with 25cm Front & side silent Cooling

i`ll probably go for the arctic cooler, as it seems very popular especially in these forums.

& i decided not to go wireless for my keyboard & mouse this time, mainly because i can`t be arsed with batteries & want a better responce time with the mouse :)
For the mouse i`m looking at this
Razer Copperhead Laser Gaming Mouse Tempest Blue LED - USB - 800/2000 dpi, 32KB Memory, Onboard Bios

or maybe this
Razer KRAIT™ 1600 dpi, 3 Button Gaming Mouse Three programmable ultra-large non-slip buttons

& this for the keyboard.
Saitek (PZ08AU) Pro Gamers Keyboard - Backlit with separate Programmable numeric Pad

The main thing i`m realy stuck on is the motherboard, i`m not bothered about paying extra for built in wi-fi etc as long as it`s got good performance, a minimum of 8 usb 2.0 sockets + a minimum of 4 sata 2 connectors (tho tbh, 6-8 would be much better) must accept ddr2 with at least 4 slots, + dual channel mode. & have at least 3 standard pci slots (preferably more) BUT it`s gotta be sub £100 !! & crossfire ready would be a very nice bonus, HELP :D

Good luck. TBH we`re only just seeing the new boards coming out now for the Core 2 Duo`s so you might not get what you want for under £100.
I`ve just ordered the Asus P5W DH Deluxe from Dabs for £145 which is the best price I found for it.

EDIT - didn`t realise it was you Chris!

Check out the PCPro A-list:

Not sure it they`ll meet the requirements, but worth checking out.

The asus P4VD2-MX
http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=1200&l1=3&l2=11&l3=0
might be ok as a stop gap untill more "well priced" boards apear, only problem is it`s only go 3 sata connectors, so i`d need to buy an add in sata card @ about £15, but since the boards only £40 thats no biggie, & the card can be used on the next board i get for extra ports :) only other issue is that it`s only single channel memory, but as i will only be able to afford 1 gig of memory at first, thats not really an issue.

now all i gotta do is sell 2 pc`s, my GTI mountain bike & my arse, then i can start building :)

Any comments? Yeah, go for it. I built my PC a couple of years ago and I`ve never looked back. ;)

this is about the tenth i`ve built for myself, but i`ve been an amd fanboy for years, it`s only in the last 6 months intel have become better than amd (bang for buck) & believe me, it bangs :D

but i`ve probrly built a couple of hundred systems in total, mainly quick builds for work/colegues use bult around mobo`s with all on-board components.. (30 minute build + another 30-45 mins dumping windows into it)

it`s just when i do one for myself, i want it just "so" if you know what i mean :)

You won`t regret going for Intel E6600. I have just had a go at 2 other models. Its multi instruction processing per clock cycle is truly phenomenal and at a lower clock speed too. There are still some die hard AMD fans out there who refuse to believe how good these Core 2 Duos are but I have bench marked 3 models including an Extreme Edition version.
