Make Firefox even faster!

xfg (Elite Donator) posted this on Tuesday, 21st December 2004, 16:07

The following is a post from blueyonder.discussion.general

Quote:
Here`s something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and
look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you
enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page
loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means
it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it
"nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the
amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you`re using a broadband connection you`ll load pages 2-3 times faster
now, you don`t need to restart firefox/your computer - it should just be
faster :)

Try http://news.bbc.co.uk and see how much faster it is.

I dunno where it`s been taken from, but it really works, Firefox was fast before, now it`s incredible!

You know, I can`t decide if it is faster or if I merely think it is ;)

Are you typing the " " marks? Don`t. :)

The original post also puts a space between the about and the : - there shouldn`t be any spaces - about:config

Nice! Tried it with the ITV F1 pages, which always seem a little slow, even with broadband, and the pages zip up! I`m a very happy chappy! Cheers xfilesgurly! :D

50:50 split over Opera v Firefox (has the edge on speed).
