Problems installing XP Pro

Hodgster (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 25th January 2004, 16:23

I was in the process of upgrading from me to Xp pro while in the middle of install the computer froze. Only option was to restart the computer. Then when i retried to boot from cd and choose to install xp again and i`m getting an error telling me that it cant find any hard drives. I`ve reformatted the c drive using a win 98 boot disc but again when trying to install xp it cant find any of my two HDs. Has anybody got any idea how to solve this problem? Any help much apreciated

i assume you have 2 hard drives, don`t know whats causing the specific problem to be honest, one thing you can try is disconect all the drives that you don`t need (ie slave hd + slave cd/dvd) and try again also when you formated the drives did they show the correct sizes ?
hope this helps

Don`t understand why you are formatting C drive using 98 boot disc when the option to format is on the XP pro CD...Why not use that option?

Another option is to try the website for yout specific hard drive.
Maxtor do the maxblast 2.... western digital do the data lifeguard tools.
These do diagnostic checks, bios checks, easy install etc.
They might help getting the hard drive recognised.
