Whats` so Good about the Aiwa 370?

Neil Martin (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 22nd November 2000, 21:12

There are a lot of people recommending this models, available at hed.co.uk.
What is good about it?
what are the specs?
Is it having any problems playing certain DVDs?
Why is it better (if it is) that the Wharfedale 750s or the Scan sc 2000?

Thanks, guys.

Well they are all wrong. When I got mine and looked in the packet I found a dead rat! Not only that the player was all rusty and had racist slurs scratched on the top! When I did manage to get it to work it would only play region 2 discs in black and white, so I threw it away.

What you really want is the Proline DVD1000. Whoah what a sexy beast that box is.....

DVD, VCD, MP3, CD-R,CD-RW. I have one of these players and it`s a good performer, but it`s picture is not as good as the Wharfedale, there is quite a lot of banding noticeable, on walls etc. But the Wharfedale’s DVD drive is noisy and annoyed me so I changed it for this. Maybe Im asking for to much for only 200, but it might be worth paying the extra £80 and getting a Sony 335. not many features but very good picture. I would give the Aiwa 8 out of 10 for picture quality.

This is my 7th DVD player, it`s not the best for picture, but it defiantly is not the worse.

Add to that:

AIWA 370 Specs

LG 3350E Specs
DD & DTS out
DD Decoder, DD & DTS out
1 x Scart
2 x Scart
No freebie
Walking With Dinosaurs

Not bad for £30 extra seeing as Walking With Dinosaurs is £20.

No banding here. Are you using the S-Video output? For info, I have the S-Video output connected to the 2nd SCART input on my Sony Trinitron Wega (this one is S-video compatible) via a S-Video/SCART convertor. Comparing this to the composite video output is like comparing chalk and cheese!!

btw if I connect SCART-SCART from the DVD to the 2nd SCART socket on theTV I definitely only get composite video.

Aiwa does DVD, CD, VCD, MP3, CD-R and CD-RW. Very soon I hope to be able to include SVCD in that list :-)

Cheers
