Hi,

My old tele has just given up the ghost, so i need to purchase a new one. I would like a 37" LCD 1080P and was looking at the Toshiba 37X3030, is this any good or can someone recommend another model?

How much money do you have to spend? I`ve (literally) just bought one of the Z series, which looks the same as the X but has more advanced features. I got the 42" version, but I think they do a 37" as well.

You bought the Z already Chris?
Interesting.
How you finding it?
I fancy upgrading my 32" W for the 37" Z.
I`m assuming I can use the same Toshiba stand you see (bolts into the back of the telly).
Any issues with backlight buzz ???
My W started off buzz free, but it`s started buzzing a wee bit on black screens. :/

Won`t have it until tomorrow, but I`ll let you know once it`s up and running. I was going to opt for the X series as I figured the Z would be at a premium for a while (I was right), but I ended up getting it for free through DVDActive so who am I to complain?

I`ve only seen one review so far, which was very favourable, although it mentioned blacks were the least impressive thing about the set (but not bad per se). I`ve seen the X series and the blacks looked fine to me, so I think I`ll be okay. To be honest I wanted it for the 1080p/24Hz/5:5 support, which is an absolute necessity. I`m really hoping it`s the business, but thankfully Toshiba kit is very rarely poor.

Don`t have a stand for mine as it`s going on top of an existing unit to free up some space in the living room. My Tosh 32ZD26P CRT has always had a slight buzz, but luckily I sit far enough away to filter it out, but I`ll listen out for it and report back.

Ordered the BD player today, have an Oppo DV-981HD review sample at home and the HD player will be on order next week when the release date stabilises at Play. Only downside is that there are no free films with the BD player (stingy gits - you get seven with HD).

Had a brief play with it when I went home for lunch. Very pretty and bloody massive! The included stand does slide into the TV and then bolt at the back, if that helps. Didn`t notice a backlight buzz, but I could hear what I assumed to be a fan if I stuck my ear right against the unit.

Obviously I didn;t have much time at lunch, but so far I`ve played South Park: BL&U and Empire Strikes back, pushed out at 1080p via the Oppo DV-981HD. I was initially a little disappointed, but then I noticed the TV was on user mode with all the silly DNR settings and colour/contrast whacked up to max. Will take a bit of tweaking to get it sorted. SD material is still gonna look ropey on a set that size no matter what, but when I get the BD player it will rock. Blacks looked good to me as well - certainly much better than the LCDs I`ve seen in person before.

I think I might turn the active backlight control off, because I swear the image kept fluctuating. Still very early days, but on the whole it looks to be an excellent set. My old CRT still whips its arse for SD material though, but that`s to be expected. I`m going to have to re-evaluate my reviewing standard now though.
