28" widescreen TV advice

I Dawson (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 5th September 2001, 18:16

Can anyone recommend a decent 28" widescreen TV. I`ve looked at Panasonics and Toshibas.

Is it worth paying the extra for a flat screen.

Any info much appreciated.

Thanks

You could do a lot worse than the one I`ve got.
Hitachi CW28511TN.
The 511 bit means it`s got the dolby pro logic 3D sound function which does a surprisingly good job without having external speakers. The pictures great and the sound is definitely improving with use as well, presumably as the speakers wear in.Only real `problem` is a wee bit of casing buzz during thunderstorm scenes and stuff. But then I do have the bass boost on and the bass turned right up. It`s nice to look at,nice steel and glass stand, easy to use, does RGB on AV1 and S-VHS on AV2, meaning direct connection of SKY and DVD without adaptors, and you can get it for around £450 off the net. I got it in exchange for a Sanyo widescreen which was a total nightmare from the word go. If I`d had more money to spend I`d have gone for a Toshiba so that I could get the component connectors for my DVD, but I didn`t so I couldn`t. I think the cheapest Toshiba with that facility is around £700.
