...what functionality do I lose.

I know I`ll lose Live Pause/Rewind, but do I also lose all other recording functions?

Ta.

Without a subscription your Sky+ box becomes a standard Sky box with no recording features at all

it`s a rip off isn`t it.
I suggest if you want Sky+ feautures without subscription you ditch Murdoch and Co and buy yourself a Freeview PVR.

Cheers guys.

No Freeview in my area, sadly. (No cable or broadband either - you`d think I lived in a feckin` cave!!!)

Where do you live? I once lived 30 miles away from a very weak freeview transmitter, it was localised to just a few miles reception from it`s area. I bought a high gain ariel & a high gain booster & got the service perfectly.

A Fusion or Thomson Freeview PVR offers all the same features as Sky+ bar series link which is arguably the most useful feature of Sky+ after dual record.
But you could look into getting something to boost your signal

Worth looking at the Humax PVR9200T - effectively has three tuners (record two programmes while watching a third), and can download programmes to a PC for burning. You can also edit the ads out of recorded programmes too. Pretty sure Sky+ does none of these.
