If you want High definition, i would go for an LCD because HD ready plasmas go £1500 and up so you can get better quality picture for less, despite the lower contrast and smaller screen size. 42 inch Lcds cost megabucks so you would be luckier than a lottery winner if you managed to get a 42 inch LCD for only a grand. The Panasonic TX32 LXD52 is an excellent screen which is HD ready, brilliant black levels for lcd technology and its only £1080 at digico.co.uk

Good luck

If you can stretch out another £100 get the relisys from ebuyer.com 42" plasma tv has loads of inputs hidef compatible thing is if you are going to get sky hidef which is going to cost a fortune get a hd ready unit but you will be looking at £1400+ i bought the relisys plasma and are very very pleased with the unit it blows my mates panasonic ans my neighbours pioneer units away on picture quality.

There will be more hi-def things than just Sky - for a start Xbox 360 and PS3 will be hi-def.

Giggity giggity!

Mines the silver and black relisys this is a particular new model dont even judge it on older relisys model which were just ok.The contrast ratio and colour count are brilliant on this tv it has loads of connections dvi composite component 2 scarts rgb via vga svideo comes with 3 speakers built in sub in tv and 2 removable speakers that screw onto side 2 year warranty too i really got mine as i wanted a bigger tv than my 32" crt i use for 50% tv via ntl&freeview xbox 20% 20% dvd via component 10% pc i am very please with the set.Look on the relisys web site for full spec relisys.com ebuyer through in the speakers and a free stand too.I looked about and got advice on various forums but i got told get a pioneer or a panny but they cost a mint and ive seen dearer makes of plasma in action and they not as good as mine which cost half of what theres cost look at my links ive posted on previous post.I will be using thee xbox 360 via component when it arrives also ive got my hidef dvd player on its way with a hdmi to dvi cable to give it a blast this tv is not hd ready it is hidef compatible basically it lacks the hdmi socket and full res sky hd will be using the lg has a hdmi socket but have heard bad reviews on it saying reliabilty and picture not too good.Hers a pic of mine with hidef through dvi the picture doesnt do it justice at all.
