Sky Viewing Card Query

davo171066 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 7th April 2005, 08:26

I have a spare viewing card that i do not need. It`s a long story, but basically i took sky`s `multi-room` option when upgrading to sky+. We didn`t want it but it was cheaper to do it that way. I am in the process of selling the original sky box on ebay. (Pace ~ auction finishes at 12:30, the buyer will have the option to buy the card too at additional cost)

My question is this ~ Will the viewing card work in anyone else`s sky box ? If so, we have the same channels on that card as viewed by us on our new sky+ box. IE... Sky Sports (all) PLUS Premier Plus. This card (if it works) would be of interest to any football fan who currently doesnt have these channels. The subscription has another 10 months to run before it ends. If it will not work, could it be made to work ?

Anybody interested can reply here. I assume i could supply copies of paperwork to show the validity of what i am saying but i realise that a large part of it is based on trust.

If this is the one were you pay £10 extra for the card each month.

The card should work until sky realise that they are not on the same phone line, well thats what happend to me. And then instead of £10 they bump it up until full price so if your paying for it by direct debit then you will foot the bill until they do a callback to check that both cards are in boxes connected to the same phone line!! So it will still work just at the extra cost. But if you bought the sky + upgrade from sky then shouldnt the card have been cancelled by them, best bet take it to a mates and try it out see if it works i guess!!

Hope it helps!!

won`t work- several reasons really

1. The box and card are `tied` to each other, so it will only work in the box it`s currently in

BUT even If the person who buys the box also bought the card,

2. within a few weeks you would get a letter off SKY saying that your telphone line is not connected to your second Sky box, if you don`t reconnect it, you will get a second leter telling you you are in breach of the T&C`s of `Multiroom` and they will cut your service if you do not re-connect the phone line to the second box immediately (Which you can`t do as you dn`t own the box any more!!). You will also find Sky may then come after you for more money(i.e to recover the discount you got when signing up for SKY+ and Multiroom)

To be honest mate-what you will get for your original SKY box on ebay won`t cover the s***storm Sky can bring to your door for breaking their T&C`s, not to mention the crap you`d get if someone did buy the multiroom card off you when it stops working (And it will, whether you continue o pay the £10 a month or not). They are VERY hot on this `Multiroom` breach off contract-if they weren`t, think of the number of people who`d simply share a subscription, even though they don`t live in the same house

Ditto.

Note started writing this at 09.50 approx - Then got diverted to play with a unsecured server.

I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.

I take it you only pay £10 for your sky multi-room card.??? This is matched to your pace box which sky can only check via the phone line being conected. I got charged 2 x £41 by sky as I didnt connect my lines. If you sell the box card etc you will still be charged for the multi-room and if you cancel sky, will cancel the card. I take it your still in your first year of Sky+ based on the above.

Like I said I dont have my lines connected and they charged me 2 full subscriptions as they said as I am getting multi-room full package for £10 they need to check the card is still at the same address which they can only do with phone lines connected

Look into all the pros and cons before selling ie are you still in 12 month contract period??

Don`t sell the box or card. The instant Sky realise that either is not operating fromyour address, you will be charged 2x whatever your subscription is.Multiroom cons are one thing Sky check up on without fail

YOU DON`T NEED YOU BOX CONNECTED TO THE PHONE LINE THATS FOR MOVIES YOU WANT TO PAY FOR.
SKY WILL NOY KNOW IF THE CARD HAS CHANGED ADDRESS, AS I MOVED HOME LAST YEAR AND NEVER TOLD SKY I MOVED THE CARD STILL WORKS.
AS THE CARDS ARE UPDATED BY THE SATALITE SIGNAL.

Ignore the above advice, its completely wrong, and seems to be referring to a standard set up and not multiroom.
Multiroom subscription conditions state that BOTH boxes need to be permanently connected to the phoneline. This is for Sky to ensure that neither card is lent ,sold or used elsewhere other than your address.
If Sky try to contact the box and card and realise its not where its supposed to be,they will charge you for full price for 2 subs or cancel one card.
Of course if you have a standard install and change address the card will still work as its still in the same digibox. There is no reason for it not to work

Careful about giving wrong, and possibly dangerous, information out on this-as far as a multi room card is concerned, you MUST have BOTH boxes connected to THE SAME telephone line

The SKY Card remains the property of SKY! You shouldn`t sell it as it ain`t yours...
