PanasonicDMRE55 or JVCDRM10

Im having trouble deciding between these two machines. the deciding factor is can i transfer my dv camcorder tapes to dvd with both machines.
As the JVC has a firewire link no problem there, but can I use the S-Video connection on the panny to record dv tapes and if so is the picture quality any good?

I record from a DV camera onto my E55
I don`t even use the s-video and the picture`s great
I did intend to buy an s-video cable but I don`t feel the need now.
It`s so easy
You don`t have to search for space on the disc or anything, just plug in and record.
It gives you thumbnails when you replay the disc.
Superb.

Latest edition of Which tested both.

It said buy the JVC - the panasonic was good, JVC the best in test.

JVC does more formats and the link for a camcorder is very useful as it controls the camcorder and makes recorded much easier (though no better quality) than with the s-video on the panny.

I would doubt the JVC controls the camera, unless it`s a JVC camera as well.
I stand to be corrected on that though. :/

Recording from a digital camcorder, you will get a digital copy if done via DV link route, whilst, the "SVHS" will only be an anologue copy.
Correct me if Iam wrong, I am led to believe thet the resolution of digital is 500 lines whilst the "SVHS"`s resolution is 400lines.
Oridnary VHS resolution is about 250 lines.
I chose to get the JVC because I was not too bothered about the RGB in, as the main purpose was to transfer the camcorder recordings (which can be done via DV LINK or SVHS.
My normal time shift recordings are via its internal tuner. ( I do not have NTL or SKY connected to it).
