Page 1 of DVD in black and white

A friend of mine copied a holiday video onto CD for me which won`t work on my LG DVD 5253 (which doesn`t seem to want to play anything except genuine DVD`s even though I have applied every known hack in the universe!!!) but also the picture is in black and white on my parents Toshiba SD-230E.

I have applied the multiregion hack and VCD hack to this player also but to no avail.

Any ideas on both machines???

The only reason a disc would play back in black and white is if its NTSC.Is your friend from the US?
If it is NTSC,changing the output/input to RGB will not guarantee a colour picture.For perfect results you need a tv that is 60hz compatible,and check the format output of the player.Try the PAL/NTSC/AUTO options.
Also I think Toshiba players will only play in pure NTSC,so if your parents set is old you may be stuck with B&W

i have just bought a 14 inch toshiba telly ,my dvd pioneer is giving black and white pics even tried the output to rgb and pic setup to auto
any solutions

If the discs are NTSC Region 1,then your tv is most likely not compatible with NTSC.Set the Pioneer to output PAL on its NTSC output setting.
If you are getting B&W from PAL Region 2 discs then some part of the system is set to s-video,most likely the output of the Pioneer-double check

Can you recommend any cheap players such as LG or Alba which output NTSC as PAL?

If not, can you tell me which other more expensive DVD players can do the same thing?

Apex 1100 and the Asda Pacific series of players.

the telly says its got ntsc options actually two sets of ntsc ,i can output the telly to NTSC but pics still remains black and white,if i set it to pal then it gives awful colors and shaky picture
any solution

changed the output on dvd player and tv both and pic is coloured again
