Any Good words about the PHILLIPS 70

Does anyone have a good word about the Phillips 70. I am leaning towards this machine over the Panasonic. A Far as i can see, the panasonic will not do DVD -RW.

Phillips do not exist, at least to my knowledge. philips do & if you require bad service a chance of unreliability & want to join the ` I wish I`d not bought a philips DVD recorder society` then the philips is the perfect answer.

However if you require a very reliable DVD recorder with the much superier DVD-RAM system & all the advantages that go with it join the Panasonic club.

There are also many other good makes of DVD recorders to choose from, & I`m sure people who have these will comment on them for you, if you haven`t read past posts that is.

I have accumulated 3 of the R70s (don`t ask...) and despite the Phillips reputation they are all fine (fingers crossed). That said the user interface is horrible and I haven`t yet cracked how to edit RW discs to remove adverts etc. For God`s sake don`t buy any 880/890 remaindered models and the new 610 seems very suspect. My Panasonic machines on the other hand are a delight to use.

I read that a weakness with the Panasonic is not its reliability but the fact it does not have a TBC fitted to it`s inputs ( what this does I dont know) and people were buying JVC models because they have, pheraps somebody could explain please. :)

TBC = Time Base Corrector. Basically, it`s a device for correcting timing errors during playback of analogue video tapes such as VHS.

It`s impossible to get a perfect signal from an analogue tape - even if the VCR is mechanically perfect, the actual tape will stretch over time, causing variations in the timing (resulting in a "wobbly" image, imperfect colours and such like). A TBC is meant to eliminate this problem.

I have converted about 50 Tapes to DVD on my E50 & E55, some tapes are nearly 20 years old & I have had no problem with any of them.
