DVD Recorder Query

I am interested in buying a DVD recorder to link to my television.

Does anyone know what file format these use? are they .MPG or .VOB files? Can i transfer these files off the DVD onto my PC and view them there?

Are there any other decently priced recordable DVD Recorders on the market?

Believe most use MPEG-2 - and yes you should be able to edit etc on your PC.

i have see 3 disks made in 3 diferent dvd recorders and they were VOB files. The best program for altering them was DVD LABS
