Help, sky dish manual re-alignment?

rob445 (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 21st December 2003, 17:59

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone had tried to re-align their sky dish by manually moving it and watching the signal strenth through the window? It needs doing but at this time of year I can`t afford to have it done correctly!!

It can be done, especially if dish has moved horizontally, however if it has moved vertically as well then it might be trickier.

Cheap option is to buy a meter from eBay just as my dad has done ( £15 inc P+P ) and it takes seconds to re-align.

Once re-aligned by whatever method you choose a neat trick to help next time is to mark the position of the dish on the bracket by scoring it or using paint or nail varnish.

Mark the dish AND the bracket so if they go out of kilter again you just slacken the dish and move it back to where it was.

Hope this helps......

;)

Alternatively, just be prepared for a bit of exercise...............and careful with that ladder!

Done it quite a few times....
You just need direct view to the TV or in my case a wife in between.
Don`t loosen the bolts completely, keep a bit of tension on them so you dont make too big a movement...Move around till you get a picture then do horizontally till it the best poss pic...then vertically till best pic.

A bit basic I know but end result is perfect.

I don`t suppose this would fix my SKY problem would it ?
I have lost all my low-band channels ( BBC1,BBC2,ITV,ITV2 etc.etc.+ all the interactive football things, which are low-band as well )
Someone told me it was more likely to be the LNB than the alignment though ?? :/

bowfer, it is more likely the alignment than the LNB. If it was the LNB you would lose a lot of channels if not the lot.
To re align you really need to have the TV (portable) outside as each time you move the dish it takes a few seconds for the reading to register. Move it a little at a time then WAIT. Repeat until you get the strongest signal.

If you take a portable outside make sure it is not raining :)
