PIE PRV645 DVD Recorder Multi Region any help???

Jackie Stait (Competent) posted this on Monday, 12th September 2005, 16:12

Hi

I have seen these PIE PRV645 DVD recorders for £97.99 in Asda today and I was wondering if there is a multi region hack for it. Your help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Jackie

Apparently it is essentially a Philips 610 machine and the same hack for that works

http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/full/philips610.asp

I haven`t got a grip of the speed needed to do this hack yet, after pressing the Play Button it usually just starts changing the Tuner channels as I type the numbers in.
Guess I`m doing something wrong with the instructions.
Hints/Tips from anyone would be appreciated.

Andy

I managed to get mine to take the Philips 610 hack, but only after a few attempts. The one on the Amazon site is wrong. I used the one on this site, and it worked OK. The remote as supplied with the Pye is about as unresponsive as you can get, so you have to sit close to the unit and aim the remote straight at the front of the thing. I memorised the long string of buttons so that I could enter them as quickly as I could move my fingers. My tip here is to find all the necessary buttons in advance and have a finger/thumb nearby ready to press them as required. I managed to leave less than a 1 second gap between each press, and that`s the one that finally worked.

Cheers, yeah, as long as you can press the sequence quick enough from the Blue Button onwards AND remember to press the PLAY button at the end it seems to work.

To note for others the numbers appear on the screen then wrap round so you only see the last few digits you entered , don`t worry this is the way it works!

It now appears having used my Pye for a couple of weeks, that the thing appears to ignore Macrovision signals and will record anything! I`m not sure if it does this out of the box, or whether it`s as a result of applying the multi-region hack, but I have made perfect copies of tapes which definately have macrovision on.

Hi

I have just brought a Pye PRV645 from my local Asda. It`s all wired up and will play R2 discs without any problems.

However, I have tried the hack for the Phillips 610 and i`m not sure if i`m getting it right or not.

When I put a R1 disc in, it will play, but everything is black and white!

I have searched all over the internet, and I can`t find any help on this one - has anyone else experienced this problem, or is it just that I haven`t managed to put the hack in correctly yet??

I have tried the machine with 4 different R1 discs, all with the same problem!

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated - unitl then I will just keep trying to input the hack and seeing if it`s worked!!

Katie :)

Oh lordy!
That old chestnut again. How many times is that question asked on here???
A simple search of these pages would give you your answer.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with Regional coding. Your player is reading the region 1 disc ok.
What is happening though is that your player is outputting a signal that your telly is not coping with.

The most likely reason for this is that you have an old telly that can not process NTSC signals produced by American (region 1) discs and Japanese (region 2 discs).
To rectify this you will either have to check your DVD menu to see if you can alter the output signal to PAL or PAL 60 or, if that doesn`t fix it, buy a new, multi-format TV set.

The other thing it could be, but unlikely as it would happen with other discs too, is that you`re set up to output an S-Video signal from your player and it`s not connected to an S-Video input. Worth checking but most likely to be the NTSC signal causing your B&W picture.

lol!! So sorry..........

After ages of trying to look for something to do with my specifc player, I made it a bit more general and found the answer!

Turns out I had the scart in the wrong connector in the back of my TV!! Swapped them over and everything was fine!!!!

Just hope the recorder works ok as well!!

Thanks for posting an answer for me though - I appreciate it!!!!!
