Philips 701 Cant Hack - Wont Hack

gillyi (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 14th January 2001, 14:53

I`ve bought the Remote URC 7560 and followed the clear instructions on this site for a hack and it will not work. I switch on , display says No Disc. I enter setup code press the Magic button and enter the 085 code. Display still says No Disc. I thought maybe the remote wasn`t functioning but it operates the TV ok. What am I doing wrong? If anybody can offer some help I would be grateful. If you can offer help before I take the player to be hacked at a cost I would be extremely grateful.
Many Thanks

ok......
have you set up the remote to control the DVD player.....?
It`s in the manual.....you have to use setup code 0539.....

try switching your DVD off and on with the remote.....if you are able to control it...you will be able to enter the code......

Make sure you just press DVD on the remote, then magic ONCE, followed by 0 then 8 then 5....

The dashes on the led display should appear....

Please let me know what results you get....

See YAH!

Allen thanks for replying - I followed the manual through but still no result. It does not accept the setup code. After entering 0539 the device key is meant to blink twice but it does nowt! Do you think I`ve got a dodgy remote although the TV and VCR work off of it with no problem.
Any thoughts?

Well this indicates that there may be a problem with the remote. Try calling the OneForAll helpline (in the manual) and they should be able to help you. Your remote *may* need an upgrade which can be done over the phone (the remote has an ickle modem inside it, bless...)

I got mine from Dixons. I had to ask for it though, as some stores don`t keep them on display. If they don`t have any in stock, they should be able to order one for you. I payed £35 for mine when I got it, but if you look around you can probably get hold of one for about £25.

Ian , Allan
thanks for your help. Phoned All4One and problem solved over the phone. I`m not technically minded but the problem appeared to be that I had programmed the TV and VCR first. She wiped those from the remote and the DVD was programmable. The only problem I have now is that on playing Region 1 it`s in Black and White. Any ideas? Incidentally I got my remote from Curry`s , only 1 in store, for £31.95. They wanted £34.95 but matched Dixon`s price.

Ok....Region 1 in B & W......again...this is a popular question....

You must have a TV that accepts an RGB signal....most new TV`s do.....

If your TV has two SCART inputs....then one is RGB and the other is Composite......

Also..you need a SCART lead which can carry the RGB signal.......

Further, the SCART lead you need for RGB is usually known as a "full specification" SCART lead (i.e. it has all of the pins connected). The RGB compatible SCART socket on a TV is almost always the first socket.
