just picked up the new argos book and found that they are selling the ALBA DVD 108 @ £69.99 (great price). Has anyone got a multi region hack for this player.

They`re also sell a really small sony dvd player for £150

Watcha eattheliving .. yep saw the Argos book .. that looks a good buy for the price .. gunna nip down the local Argos tomorrow and get me one ... hope that it is " Hackable " but if not .. hey a cheap 2nd player.

Hack for the Alba is :

Same hack as a number of Chinese built players, and RCE-proofed.

I have see the DVD player and it is really smart looking. It says that it plays cdr and cdrw but I really would like to know all the formats that it is capible of playing. VCD 1.0 and 2.0 is a must and MP3 would be a bonus also. Can anyone let me know this info

What does RCE-proofed mean please ??? Sorry to be thick but I`m new to this!

I got one today, dont play vcd or svcd, plays dvd-r`s fine (Tested a tradata gen 3 one).

Ive connected it upto my VCR and tryed playing a Region 2 Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me dvd, and there is no Macrovision, tryed recorded too (My VCR is an Samsung one, not that new but still does the job, My Lasonic 8050D has macrovision)

The hack someone said dont work.

Looks like we have a Region 2 locked but macrovision free.

I removed the lid off mine :D I see a basic IDE DVD Rom Loader C-Cube chipset. Also the remote for my Dansai 852 works with it but the wrong fucations.

Nothing else to say.

It`s gonna be a variation on that theme as a number of Far eastern players are using similar firmware now.

Have you got anyway of isolating the firmware from the EEPROM ?

Check out my entry on the Bargain Buckets forum, no hack is required for the Alba 108, it would appear to be multi-region straight out of the box !!!!!!!
