Tried all the usual comparison sites...
Tried a few direct...

Oddly enough I get quotes on one comparison site that another states "unable to quote with your details" for the same insurer!??!

Anyways, can`t get a decent quote for my wee second runner (an old T reg Rover 200) unless I pay around £500 with £400 excess for a car I put the value in as less than that!
I get the point.. if I hit some rich twit in an Enzo then it`s huge claim time but FFS I have 18+ years no fault driving and my Zafira hire and reward policy doing up to 40000 miles PA is only £700, and that has full Public Liability built in!
(granted, excess is higher but only by £200!)

And why are my quotes so high or declined to quote...?
Because of my occupation!

Well, here`s a bombshell for you thieving gits in Insurance, I WON`T be using the private car for hire and reward cos that`s why I have a SEPERATE policy and SEPERATE car for!
(not counting the fact that the Rover doesn`t fullfill the plate and test regulations for any council anywhere anyways!!)

Even dropped it to doing 2000 miles a year... the difference? one quote dropped by a fiver, the others remained the same.

And don`t even start on "Change to 3rd party only"... thats £70 on top!

Rant over....(for now :D)

My fully comp renewal with Elephant.co.uk is £346 if thats any help, may stick with them, usually change every year between Admiral and Privilege, then tried them last year and they were the cheapest.

I have a BMW 320i, my car is worth a little more than yours, but I doubt it is worth that much more!

On a related note, do they automatically know I got 3 points on my license or do I have to tell them?

Are you talking about the old T Reg (ABC 123 T) that would make it 78\79, into a classic car grouping (over 25 years), I paid about £150 for my TR7 with unlimited mileage, business cover & breakdown recovery (yes it was needed often) with Footman James.

Sorry bit out of touch these days with what car make\model is what there (even before I left the UK truth be told).

Nah, a 98 T as in T123 ABC.
RJ yep, you need to tell them. They probably do know from their gazillion database links but they use it as an excuse to null the policy in the event of a claim as you "didn`t disclose the information"

Elephant wanted almost £900 btw.

@jimbo... maybe the insurance people have been reading the "trading" forum
on this site and have noticed that you have money to burn? :D

After £800+ of repairs to the Zafira this week I deffo don`t :(
(Clutch, Flywheel and a CV joint. Funny that only the most popular Diesel model has a clutch priced in excess of £700 everywhere and it`s also the most common to go :( )

my datsun £65 per year fully comp (3000 mile limited policy) (perfornance direct)
SWMBO Tacuma £220 per year fully comp (Tesco)

Bearing in mind the miles i do for work about 35000 last year, i thought not too bad?

***kin ouch.
Clutch for the Picasso was about £270 about 18 months ago. The main dealers did want about £700 though but I know your genned up enough to have shopped around.

Have you used any of the comparison sites linked from Money Saving Expert they saved us a fortune when we put my daughter on my wifes policy for our Peugeot 206.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

My mate did it, didn`t charge me anything extra for the parts, just the cost price.
If he had been doing the same job for anyone else, £1200! (?!?!)
Main stealer prices are in excess of £1300 and they quote the parts around £900

I could only find one on there apart from the usual GoCompare/Confused etc.
Tried everywhere and it`s MSE that brough up one called 1st Central who are half what everyone else wants!
However, they don`t have the "3rd party other cars" but as my occupation is PH or Taxi driver I don`t get that on a normal policy anyway, but scanning around the interwebs 1st Central gets a horrendous name if you need to contact them for anything.
I`m not expecting to need to contact them, or have a bump etc., but no point paying £340+ just to add a years no claims to a car hardly driven!
