Phrases that annoy

What little gems of the English language really get on your wick?

With me, it`s "At the end of the day". I can`t stand it, and hearing it causes me
physical pain. Usually because I`m hitting my head against a wall. It`s a nonsense, meaningless phrase that people use to fill a gap while they`re searching desperately for something meaningfull to say. I`d rather hear a couple of seconds of umming and er-ing.

The slower the intellect, the more you hear it. Grab a random lowbrow from the street for a voxpop and you`ll hear at least 3 "At the end of the day`s" in one sentence.

It`s also a reason why I try to avoid sports on TV, especially footy and boxing. Because at the end of the day, "At the end of the day" is all you`ll hear.

And if I ever hear myself using it, I immediately feel like killing myself just after, as I suffer the shame and self loathing for having uttered such a banality. >:(

24 7.

I had to laugh when some pie-faced harridan told me that she looks after kids "24 7 a day!" Either her maths was very wrong indeed or she`s living in dog years. :D

obviously a bit of a dog then :p

as for phrases that annoy me, the two most irritating are Quote:
"going forward"
and Quote:
"touch base"
both of which are used by varying managerial levels at work, and both of which receive a sharp variation on "what the f*** do you mean by that" !?

I am sick of hearing people say "for sure"; the worst culprits are F1 drivers and commentators. What`s wrong with saying "definitely" or "surely"?
