HMV make me laugh once more

tiklyrixx (Competent) posted this on Monday, 10th September 2001, 17:28

About two weeks ago HMV had an offer of 2 for £20 on a good range on DVD`s. Some good ones there as youll probably all be aware of. OF course now the offer has ceased, but they have replaced it with a buy one get one free offer on the same range of DVD`s. The only thing is, each DVD is £19.99. Is it just me or is this exactly the same offer, and why change the name of it?

Perhaps they decided they could afford to lose a penny per sale ;-)

Seriously, it bothers me that those who don`t have Internet access know no better. When I go into Woolies and see people falling over themselves because Gladiator is £19.99 instead of £22.99 I usually point out that if they were to shop around on the Net they`d get it a lot cheaper.

They then think Christmas has come early :-)

I was looking at these the other day. You can get two for 17.99 so I suppose some are cheaper

Last time I was in, they had both offers running side by side (Newcastle store). Decent bargains to be had in both too.

The title of this thread says it all!
This company does not know how to offer a so called bargain, which everyone has a chance of benefiting from.
This shower, offers a so called loss leader to grab everyones attention so that we all get on the net or down to the store to find that there are no such bargains available "sorry sold out". (they only have ONE item anyway!)
This type of selling loses customers, as I am sure that once bitten twice shy and I for one will now mainly buy abroad(EzyDVD or DVDBoxoffice) and from Futureent.
As I have said before, this type of marketing loses us brits jobs in the long run, stores will eventually close, more people will use "foreign" sites it may take a few years, but suddenly people will cotton on!

I think a lot of it has the hallmark of RIP OFF Britain, we pay more so every other sod in the world pays less!

Disagree, I have bought DVD`s from both HMV offers and they are a good deal, the new offer has a complete change of films, they all come sealed no fingerprints or marks on them (remember woolworths) and also films like Jaws and Exorcist 20 quid for both how is that a rip off! and they got a good selection.

Keep up the good work HMV!

As someone who recently got 6 DVD`s from HMV for the princely sum of £32.87 delivered (arrived the morning after my order), I think they are a tozzing store! Long may they continue to get their web site prices wrong! ;-)

PS Please don`t think I ordered all these dvds to sell on at a profit, because I didn`t. I ordered a copy of each (Austin Powers2, U-571 and Little Nicky) for my mate, who was out of the UK at the time. Good friend, or what? ;-)

These `offers` always seem to only include the 12.99 barebones Warner range. The same ones that you can pick up for £7.99 from www.play247.com
