Linda Smith

Just heard that Linda Smith of R4 The News Quiz has passed away due to cancer.

It won`t be the same without her.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

She often made me laugh aloud in the car on a dreary journey home from work with her regular Radio 4 slots...a really sad loss... :(

For me, she was quite simply the funniest woman ever.

Heard Jenny Eclair being interviewed about Linda - she apparently was ill for 3-4 years but chose to keep it quiet apart from the few close friends who knew all along. Very proud woman Jenny said. A real shame.
