Apart from the terrible use of english i can see why you`re not living in the same lifestyle as you mates!! ;)

Pay as you go is my chosen payment choice for my phone as i`ve proved that i`m actually £60 better off each month as a result of ditching my contract. They may offer nice bonuses like free minutes etc, but if you don`t use them you`re money is wasted as many providers are choosing not to roll over minutes or texts anymore. If i put £20 a month on my mobile and don`t use it, i know that it will still be there the next month as well, and the month after if i still don`t use it. When i had my Orange contract i didn`t use my phone for 2 months due to sickness and i begrudged £60 having gone to waste for 2 months airtime i`d not used. They won`t give it back and that`s precisely how your supposed `free` phone is paid for.

You can`t be much of a mate if you don`t wanna ring your friends back when they ask >:(

Thankyou please. Rant over

I pay 15 quid a month for 100 minutes any time and 50 texts. I also got a nice 6100 free. It annoys me too when people quote the old "out of credit" line. But I think the deal I`ve got is pretty good and not like those daft 500 minutes between 1am and 2am on every other Thursday, type offers.

I got a "free" 3650 by signing up to O2 for £25 a month with 100 cross-network anytime minutes and 100 texts. I`ve been very good and used the calls log on the phone to make sure I stay within the free calls...had a couple of £35 and £45 months but then I got a free phone innit.

people getting these payg phones and never putting any credit on them and expecting you to call them back all the time !!

Westy,

glad you picked up on my english, I must confess I am not an English teacher.
Have re-read my original grumble and can see I must have been in a great mood when I posted it and I think you have made a good point. Am happy the "pay as you go" payment choice works for you. What was I on about, all my mates have contract phones as we all have good social lives and lots of mates to keep in touch with, think I just needed to give the soapbox a work-out.

Got to agree with coops Westy.
Don`t see the relevance of his "terrible use of english" - ;) or no ;) ..
We all know your opinion on PAYG being better than contract and of course you`re entitled to that opinion (even if it is wrong ;-) )

Do you, for one minute think if for example Mr Bruce was making a similar point you`d have mentioned terrible English or just given the second half of your answer?..

I am on a contract phone (Everyday 50) for the 50p a day it costs (my own co) to run I can talk to my wife or more correctly listen for 50 mins free off peak. I also use it to dial into a ISP for net & e-mail access.

I use a freephone access number during the day for expected long personal phone calls rather than pay 40p/min.

With Orange care the average bill costs "me" £22 a month, with a new phone (& one £50 upgrade to a Nokia 6310i).

When I was PAYG & talking to agenciesemployers at 50p a min & no 0800 access to billing services came to £25 a month without Orange care.

Contract phones work for me but would be unviable for my wife (who usually rings me then asks me to call her back anyway mobile or BT) who spends less than a tenner a quarter.

Yes i would have if he`d come out with that sort of stuff.

Look, there`s no right or wrong in the mobile world, i just think that the mobile providers are a bunch of greedybags and don`t give toss when it comes to customer service. I used to have huge bills, then i realised the error of my ways, cut down and did some thorough investigating into the way mobile operators claw their money back on the handset.

I`ve got a contract, but that`s getting cancelled in December.

And for the last time - the phone is not free!! What line are you renting for £20 per month? Exactly, you`re paying the subsidised cost of the handset and for some minutes instead.

I`m not saying contracts are worse than pay as you go, but i`ve got far more cash in the bank than when i did have one :)

does no one have a land line anymore ? how anyone can spend 25quid and more a month is beyond me :/ (apart from buisness users) as for contract being better that pay & go, surely that depends on your usage ie 10quid lasts me around 2-3 months so a contract would be utterly uselles :D
