I QUIT MY JOB!! A new beginning for Westy starts here...

Westy (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 8th April 2003, 10:50

Yes, you read the title correctly, as of May17th, i will no longer be an employee of Tesco Stores Limited.

And do you know what i say? Thank god!!

I am not going to sit here and flame the company for the way it treats its people, as there are many employees who are happy in their jobs within the company - but after 5 loyal years i have slowly realised that Tesco today is not the Tesco i joined all those years ago.

These days corporate greed and too many incentives mean people are forgotten shamelessly and not treated as human beings, which is very sad as i am not the only manager to leave within the last month.

1.4 Billion profit for the 3rd year running is very admirable Sir Terry, but good manners and respect cost nothing.

The feeling of relief as i sealed that letter of resignation was like no other feeling i have had in the last 5 years.

Thanks for reading!

I worked for Safeway and felt the same way about them. The amount of Sh*t I had to put up with was unbelievable. They kept saying to me, put up with it and in five years you could be a manager earning £16,000!

Thank God I saw the light and put myself through five years of education to get a degree. For which I am currently writing my disseration, which is due in on Friday!!!!

I am going to just be a monkey for a year and then see what happens. British Gas in Cardiff have jobs with good pay that are just monday to friday DAY work, (not nights thank f***!), and i work no later than 8pm.

I just can`t be bothered being a boss again at the moment, 5 years of it has completely drained me what with the stupid hours and the way we all get treated, so i`ve just stuck up 2 fingers and decided enough is enough. Some Tesco employess are staring through s*** tainted glasses and just don`t have the balls to jack it cause they think Tesco is the be all and end all.

My girlfriend is one of them and she is slowly beginning to realise ;-)

Get those DVD requests in quick Mr Bruce

Westy: "These days corporate greed and too many incentives mean people are forgotten shamelessly and not treated as human beings"

That statement sums up virtually every organisation these days m8. Unfortunate but true.....

Well done for getting away, your health will improve no end being off nights!

It`s a brave man that packs in a job, but fair play to you.

Did the same myself last year. Working 70+ hours per week, all over the country. Yes nice car, yes nice mobile, yes, nice hotels - but so what.

Never had any time for myself or wife, I headed up a sales team and despite hitting targets boss then said `it was up to me to make up the shortfall that the other sales team had made`. Yeh, thanks for putting more pressure on. How about sacking those sales folks who can`t do the job?. Oh, can`t do that as it would take too long to train new ones!.

Resignation put in, pressure off. Wow, I felt young again!!

Must be something in the air at present, myself included, I know of 11 people who are at present either working their notice or have just started new jobs! I`m moving from a "faceless" to a smaller firm and the atmosphere, vibes, feeling etc are sooooo different to what I have been used to for the last 9 years. I am `uman again, see smiley faces and will be working for / with people who want to do well rather than just go through the motions...BUT, most importantly, they know how to have a laugh!!
Well done Westy, it`s a daunting thing to think about and do initially but the rewards...well, you`ll see.
Good luck and welcome back to the world mate.

In my many years in business one of the things I saw, ( and experienced )all too often was the hard work ethic and loyalty of senior staff being abused and stretched time after time after time.
It seems that today the more committed and industrious you are the more is heaped on you.
I`m glad that you have a fall back job option because the one thing I used to preach ( and practice ) ;-) was never close the door unless you have another one open.

Good luck in what ever you do.
