Page 1 of PS2 DVD Remote

Anybody know if it is possible to use a One-For-All remote to control the DVD functions of a Sony PS2.
If anybody has done it , what code did you use?
I don`t actually have a PS2 but a mate has just bought one after the latest price cut and wants to know if he can use his One-For-All 6.
By the way , I have no idea how those multiple posts got there (I pressed a couple of wrong keys and , Bang , there they were) .

Short answer, No.

you still need an Infra-red receiver attached to the machine. The PS2 does not have one built in as standard. So to get a reciever, you`ll need to buy a remote anyway, thus negating the need for a one-for-all.

Also, there`s quite a few different models out there, so the IR frequencies would be different for each particular make.

Don`t know if this helps you, but my Sony TV remote controls my PS2 through the IR receiver for the official remote control. Don`t know if it would work with the new PS2`s with the receiver built in though.

Thanks , Pistol - sounds promising. I have now got a PS2 myself , although as it is a crimbo present for my son , it has been packed away until 25/12.
However , I see from the packaging that it now has a built in IR receiver and I have checked back with my mate and his is the same.
Unfortunately , as he has the PS2 setup and I have the One-For-All (and we live some distance apart and are not likely to meet again for a month or two) , the `Suck It And See` solution is off the cards right now.
In my case , I`m quite happy to buy the Sony or other make DVD remote (as an aside , I see Amazon do a remote plus `region X` type disc for £11.99) , but as it is going in my kid`s bedroom and they have an almost uncanny knack for losing remote controls for months on end , the backup of a One-For-All would be useful.

The one-for-all`s come with a built-in signal finder program. Basically you key in the special code, and hit `Magic` and the off button repeatedly until it does something to the target machine.

it is possible to do this with a one for all using the auto search function of the one for all remote each remote is different i don`t know which model you have but auto search is a standard function on most it should find the code for you but you have to be patiant as it can take a whilst just point it at the infared reader on your pals ps2 and using the auto search function (my own cotroller press dvd and set till the red light starts blinking this is search then every now and then press power on/off when appliance responds press set) thats how it works, most remotes with dvd settings should work

I`ve just bought a PS2 for the kids for crimbo on the Argos deal but which SCPH number has the bvuilt in IR. I would look to see if it had one but it`s been hidden well away so the kids can`t find it! :)
