New Harry Potter - Faulty Discs?

Thrifty (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 12th April 2003, 12:29

I`ve received this from Play today. I can get Disc One to play in my Wharfedale 750s but it will not recognise Disc Two. Neither disc will play in my PC! Anyone else experiencing problems?

Just now gotten back from Asda having exchanged COS. The first one glitched at Chapter 18. Time to give this one a spin and see if there aren`t any problems.

I have a Wharfedale 750. It played disc 1 OK. And I could get extra scenes and Menus on Disc 2.But on some parts of Disc 2 it either freezes or goes back to Blue DVD screen and I have to start again. Have tried to find a contact for Warner Brothers with no success. Play have said they will replace, but why shoud they if its a coding problem.

My missus reckons the DVD reset a couple of times when viewing the disk 2 extras on our Wharfedale 750. No problem with the film.

Harry Potter is s*** anyway, it`s probably your player realising this and trying to stop you from making the biggest mistake of your life.

On what basis are you making your statement. If you have seen the movies and read the books then your opinion would be valid. I just hate all these people (including some of my mates) who slag it off before they have even seen/read it. Their arguments are on the basis of nothing.
Believe me, I accidentally saw the first movie and before that I too ignorantly believed it was a load of tosh but after seeing it and seeing the second, I really got into it and read all the books.

Me, the Mrs and our littlun got this on Friday, Mrs had a bottle of red wine, I had a coupla beers and the little feller had a milkshake and chips n dips (Special treat, not his usual diet I promise). What a great evenings entertainment, admittedly a large proportion of the enjoyment came from all of us actually having the time to sit together for the first time in ages but we all thoroughly enjoyed this film.
Getting back to the point of the thread...sorry...our disk 1 played AOK with no glitches, didn`t even notice the layer transition and the DVD ROM features appear to function as they should too...maybe just a dodgy disk for the first poster? Anyway to sum up, so far so good on quality of both disks and content.

got this yesterday, haven`t had any probs yet. as to the point made by dicanio, I seem to recall a similar thread (probably started by me) having a go at those that instantly label the whole HP `thang` as crap with no justification or proof. Then Grunt Boy popped his oar in and the whole thread instantly transformed into a slagging match... ah, those were the days....

Watched the replaced discs last night...

(Not Disc 2 in entirety though)

And everything was fine.
Could be a dodgy batch...

Personally, I think the Harry Potter films are dull and lifeless. I put this down to Chris Columbus though. I`m sure the books are great (not that I`ll ever read them).

Anyway... I always get worried seeing dodgy DVD`s, especially new ones. Lets hope this was a minor glitch.
