FAKE AUTOGRAPHS (In Ilford)

tiklyrixx (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 15th January 2002, 20:32

Down ilford High street there is a shop which sells autographed photos, posters etc, they have a huge Arsenal Poster with apparent signitures of the 97-98 double winning squad, which have all been faked!!

I know because i actually did get my shirt signed by half the squad, and all the signitures are completely different. When i confronted him and pointed this out, he said that he wasnt doing anything illegal as he never actually says that they are real.

Is he breaking the law?

It sounds as though he is breaking the law because the merchandise gives a false impression, he`s passing off. Unless he has a sign or something which clearly states that the autographs are not real. I`m sure there are others who may give a more definitive answer to this though.

If he is selling it as a signed arsenal poster then technically it is! If you buy something like this then you should be able to get a certificate stating that it is genuine. My mate picked up a British Lions rugby top and got a certificate from addidas confirming it. Not sure if this is the same though.

ps. who would want an arsenal poster anyway?! ;-) (perhaps someone with a dart board)

False advertising even if he dosn`t say it`s genuine, it`s by implication. Report him to trading standards. Anyway I`m surprised Arsenal players can sign their names !

PS I know Ilford well, I`m in Dagenham, used to spend every weekend up the Palais.
