trying hard to resist, just still feel HD-DVDs are still too pricey but if you want one then don`t forget 5% rebate if you use your Egg Card and an additional 3% rebate if you go via Quidco.com....making it just under £96 delivered

Don`t wish to pour cold water on this but read some bad things about this HDD, can`t remember where but will try and dig it out and post on here. Roger.

My HDDVD drive has worked fine since I had it at Christmas. Does get noisy if not given enough ventilation, but apart from that it`s great.

HD-DVD prices are starting to come down, especially at places like Movietyme and Play. They`ve even got them in Asda now...

Cheers

My HD DVD has been amazing. Only 1 problem I`ve had was with the Children of Men disc. But that`s the disc, not the HD DVD player itself.

Obviously, if you`ve got an HDTV, its worth getting. Otherwise don`t bother!

Saw one of these reduced in Gamestation to day at £99, just with media remote no King Kong

The missus rolled her eyes in the `go on then guess it`s inevertible` way which was promising, :) but then we walked into Game, HMV and Blockbuster (admitedly Kettering is a small town) and all there was, were Blu-Ray discs.

So the missus asks if its on the way out then?

Harry Knowles on aint-it-cool-news just recently jumped in with HD-DVD in the US, I`m tempted to think that Blu-rays recent sucess is due to the Casino royale offer with the PS3 but the local shops didn`t fill me with confidence. Apparently Porn is on the HD-DVD side, its cheaper cost of drives is lower, and in the Beetamax/VHS battle the technically superior Beeta lost to VHS partialy due to cost & porn. Im not interested in smut, but its a powerful industry and indicator.

Also I have a HDMI upscaling DVD player, only have a 720P HD ready TV and have Virgin V+ connected with HDMI, I understand it will be 3 times better than normal DVD, but I`m not sure the wow factor will be there, and the last thing I would need is the missus telling me she can`t spot what all the fuss was about.

I have heard the HD-DVD can have PIP overlays and the menus are technically clever, any idear which is the most impressive disc for technical extras?

Sorry to hijack the tread a bit, but I could do with some support and persasive ammunition.

Tony
